So Needed
This podcast was amazingly well done. Megan Phelps-Roper beautifully models the kind of respectful, open dialogue, the listening, that our society so desperately needs. Her own experiences in her former fundamentalist church, and since opening herself to other views and learning to think critically bring so much to the podcast. Really, it is all about free speech, which is incredibly important at this time. I would also recommend for listeners Tim Urban’s book What’s Our Problem? A Self Help book for Societies.
Both sides <3
I loved all of the discussions from both sides. Very thought provoking and I didn’t feel like I was being tricked into siding with a particular viewpoint. I feel like I was able to learn a lot on both ends which I can take back and consider.
Finally a safe and rational dialogue
It’s becoming rare to find safe conversations where people are willing to discuss this topic rationally. I really appreciated the attention given to explaining more intricate positions on this topic, the degradation of free inquiry in the wake of unyielding righteousness is so uninspiring.
The first half of the series does lean in Rowlings defense, however in the second half of the series we get a lot more context for the debate at hand and some representative personal accounts; while I have my own evolving opinions on this topic, I love that the opinions shared in this series were given without toxicity or low-brow character attacks justified on the basis of her success.
Great production value and a wild timeline to watch the incendiary pendulum of social activism swing to the present.
