One rad podcast
The Thirteenth Hour podcast is the perfect trip for any ‘80s kid (or ‘80s kid at heart) who wants to bask in nostalgia and rediscover everything from classic sword and sorcery movies to synthwave music hailing from a time that never quite existed. Josh Blum talks about all of these topics and more, basing each episode around the various inspirations that drove him to write a fantasy novel bearing the same name as his show. Great listening for fans of the Rocketeer, dreamers and anyone who’s ever envisioned soaring into the skies atop a magic surfboard! (That’s a reference to Josh’s book version of The Thirteenth Hour - well worth reading!)
The Thirteenth Hour
My dog, Rufus T Firefly, behaves way better when I’m listening to The Thirteenth hour while we’re walking. He suggests this is because I amble slower and am more smitten by his antics as well as the beauty and absurdities of life. He attributes that to Josh Blum who invites us to join him on a leisurely, thoughtful, and wry romp through the magical and droll, as he explores his own creative processes and delights. His enthusiasm and amusement are contagious. Often I have to rewind so I can hear what he just said because his commentary has catapulted me into some reverie of my own, which I suspect was his intention all along. At the end of each episode Josh reminds us to help create the world we want to be in. That sure works for me.
A great show
There are a lot of podcasts, and many of them feel the same. This one doesn't, and for that reason alone, deserves your attention.
