Finish Line Founder, Jenny Frankfurt: How to Network Your Way to Success in the Business

Finish Line Founder, Jenny Frankfurt: How to Network Your Way to Success in the Business

Jenny Frankfurt is the founder of The Finish Line Script Competition, currently in its 7th year. Prior to Finish Line and her work as a script consultant, Jenny was a film and television literary manager/producer at ICM, Handprint Entertainment and her own company, Highstreet Management. She has represented writers and filmmakers around the globe, specializing but not limited to breaking UK, European & amp; Australian writers and directors into the US market. She sold television shows (both reality and fiction), features and staffed television shows for over 20 years.
Jenny began her career in representation after graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts by working at the William Morris Agency in New York where she worked for a legendary film, tv and playwright’s agent, who represented such writers as Eric Bogosian, William Mastrosimone, Warren Leight, Eric Overmyer and Jon Robin Baitz.
Jenny worked at ICM with clients such as Susan Sarandon, Louis Malle, Johnny Depp, Lasse Hallstrom and Will Smith. After deciding management would give her more freedom to produce and influence her client’s careers she started working with manager Rick Yorn and clients such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Claire Danes and Benicio Del Toro among others.
Finish Line is based on the idea that rewriting is essential to being a successful writer and we provide development notes when requested in order for writers to rewrite and resubmit new drafts (for free) throughout the competition. This mimics a studio, network or production company process and helps the writer prepare for a serious career in the entertainment industry.

Ivan Mbakop Multi-Hyphenate - Exploding Career - Indispensable Insights: RED NOTICE, LAWMAN BASS REEVES, HAWKEYE, PARISH

Ivan Mbakop, an American actor, film director and application designer, was born on October 15, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. He is the first of three boys, and the son of a Supreme Court Justice and a High School Vice Principal. Securing acceptance at an HBCU, he flew to the States to attend Tuskegee University. As he completed his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, he married his college crush in 1999 and relocated to Atlanta, GA. He ran into the arts quite by accident, walking into a dance & drama class his wife was attending.
Some of his first acting gigs were commercials for Cox Communications and Coca Cola. He later appeared in a music video for Canton Jones Kingdom Business (2009) and a lead theatrical performance for Christmas in Cambridge that same year. His role in Baby Mama's Club (2010) closed out 2010 as being a very successful year for his acting repertoire.
He took a hiatus from the stage to focus on his business. Seven years and a few business ventures later, he returned with a strong Directorial debut in Victus (2017), a project he created the idea for, would be one of many to come. Following soon after was a television debut in Valor , Season 1 Episode 5 (2017) as Negotiator.
He is gaining momentum in the industry not only as a new talent to look out for, but also as a technologically innovative producer. He lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife April Mbakop and 4 children.

Nelsteph05 ,

Packed with information!

I moved to LA in 2021 to finish my MFA in screenwriting. Once I graduated, I was lost. I knew how to write, but I didn't know anything about the current state of the entertainment industry. I didn't think this was a big deal until the WGA strike. I realized I needed to know how the entertainment industry works, not just how to write a great script. And I had so many unanswered questions. Who do executives want to work with? How can I contribute to creating a BETTER version of Hollywood? How do I build up my network of friends, mentors, and peers? Should I continue to enter contests? Kaia and her guests dive into everything you want to know (and more!). The guests provide a plethora of information you can't find anywhere else. If you want to work in the entertainment industry, this podcast is for YOU!

The inside view with an industry expert

I’m new to this podcast, and alternating between listening to the archives while trying to keep up with new episodes. Kaia’s a terrific host and the guests on the show are amazing and include a variety of writers, producers, and industry notables. Kaia also shares freely and frankly from her own considerable work experiences in the entertainment business. I especially enjoy the “This Just In” segments that cover the industry events and trends in this every-changing market. The podcast strikes a nice balance of encouragement and reality. Highly recommend subscribing!
