GoTigers247 breaks down Jalen Duren's commitment Tigers in 20: A Memphis Tigers Athletics podcast

    • Basketball

Penny Hardaway and his staff have done it once again. The No. 1 overall player in the 2022 class, Jalen Duren, has made his commitment to Memphis. Needless to say, this is absolutely massive for the future of the Memphis basketball program.
Duren recently took official visits to Kentucky, Memphis and Miami, but Hardaway and the Tigers' staff clearly made the biggest impression. The professional route was also a possibility for Duren, who was offered big money to skip out on college.
Simply put, Duren is arguably the best high school prospect in the world. With his decision to Memphis now official, all signs point to Duren reclassifying from 2022 to 2021 which means he will be on campus as soon as possible.
With Duren likely to be on roster for the 2021-2022 season, Memphis just got much better in the front court. Although the national media hasn't been sure about Memphis going into the season, Duren should change that. The No. 1 overall player will immediately make the Tigers one of the better teams in the country.
The five-star is physically dominant in the paint, and he is already built like a brick wall. Duren has been dominating on the AAU circuit alongside generational talent Emoni Bates.
Duren and Bates make up one of the most formidable AAU duos in recent memory as both players are nearly unstoppable at the high school level. Although Bates has been ranked as the No. 1 player for quite some time, Duren jumped him in the most recent 247Sports rankings update.
