Bryan Peterson became involved in local human and wildlife issues in 2000 while serving on a wildlife advisory board for La Plata County Government. He has been staff and director of Bear Smart Durango since its inception and oversees all programs. He has attended regional and international bear conferences in Montana, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nevada and British Columbia where he has met and shared ideas with the best bear experts in the world. Christie Greene arrived in Denver in 1986 when she accepted a job transfer from her employer in Nashville, and three years later she discovered Evergreen. Like the John Denver lyrics “Coming home to a place I’ve never been before,” she felt immediately at home and has lived in Evergreen since 1989. She can wake every morning knowing there is wildlife all around her every single day.Christie started Wild Aware when a large number of elk were struck on Evergreen Parkway in November of 2019. Looking into the open eye of a fallen female elk, Christie became determined to attack the problem of wildlife-vehicle collisions by bringing together like-minded members of the community. Wild Aware has given Christie the honor of meeting the most incredible human beings. Merne Judson III was born and raised in Colorado. He grew up in Crested Butte and Gunnsion. He attended Colorado Mountain Collage in Glenwood Springs for his photography degree.
