Despite initial thoughts that Diane might have run away, police now suspect foul play, possibly connected to her extramarital affairs. Merle, her husband, was not considered a suspect, and seven years after her disappearance, he had Diane declared legally dead. No one has been charged, and the case remains unsolved.
