Embracing Conflicting Emotions with Sara Eisemann

Life is complicated, and with life experiences come complex emotions. But embracing conflicting emotions with strategies such as paradoxical thinking can make all the difference. This is the topic that therapist, dating coach and columnist Sara Eisemann wanted to DMC with us on this episode because she knew the life-changing impact of “both/and” thinking, which looks something like this: “I’m both so grateful for my son’s bar mitzvah and overwhelmed hosting my family.” Instead of fighting those conflicting emotions, we embrace them – and drop the guilt. You’ll learn about this and more in this fascinating conversation. In this episode we discuss: What Sara’s aims to accomplish in all the work she does, from clinical therapist to Family First columnist to Director of Education for Core. What “both/and” means and how it can be applied to life experiences Typical paradoxes in our lives and how we can make space for them How to handle negative emotions in a healthy way The role of acceptance  We love hearing from our listeners. Finding Meaning in Mourning with Sarah Rivkah Kohn

We’ve entered the Three Weeks, and the Jewish calendar instructs us to have mourning on our mind. We knew that Sarah Rivkah Kohn, founder of Links Family, would help us find the meaning in mourning. Links Family is an organization that provides support to children and teens who have lost a parent. Through her own personal loss, and her work with Links, Sarah Rivkah has learned so much about the process and significance of mourning and how it can apply to all of us, even if we haven’t lost a loved one.  On this DMC we discuss: How and why Sarah Rivkah founded Links Family What Sarah Rivkah has learned about mourning The various forms of loss  in the human experience How Sarah Rivkah’s experience informs her understanding of the loss of the Beis Hamikdash How we can make Tisha Baav more meaningful in our lives We love hearing from our listeners.
