"Right now, trans people face the unprecedented combination of political, social and physical violence--to the extent that when stories are told about our community, it is often through the lens of this violence,” says Imara Jones, host and creator of TransLash Podcast, Apple Podcasts’ Spotlight show for August 2022. “But the truth is that our lives are defined by so much more beyond hate. In almost every area of society, trans people are innovating, creating new futures and thriving--and this is the story I want to tell.”Jones first made an impact in a 2018 online docuseries about her transition and life and four years later, the podcast is just one part of TransLash Media, a fast-growing platform and nonprofit organization telling stories and reflecting the culture through a trans perspective. With new episodes twice a month, Jones delivers illuminating discussions with guests from the trans community as well as allies to help create a fairer world for all.
Each episode also starts with a segment that highlights a moment of joy to add a bit of levity to some of the heavier topics she covers. “We showcase the fundamental hope and joy which propels our community forward,” she says. “If you care about and want to understand trans people at this moment, we have evolved into essential listening both for our community and those outside of it.”
With anti-trans violence and political backlash at all-time highs, award-winning journalist Imara Jones hosts the TransLash podcast, where trans people and allies talk back about what matters most and discuss how to create a fairer world for all.

Trans Athletes and Title IX
The Biden Administration has proposed a change to Title IX that would prohibit schools from categorically banning trans students from sports teams that align with their identity. But many advocates have criticized the new rule, pointing out that schools would still have leeway to discriminate based on exceptions around competitive advantage and risk of injury.
In this episode, Imara unpacks the pros and cons of this new rule. She speaks with Andy Marra, the Executive Director of the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF), about the proposal’s potential impacts on trans student athletes. Imara also chats with Melanie Willingham-Jaggers, Executive Director of GLSEN, about their public comment campaign urging revisions to the rule and the need for more clarity on its anti-discrimination protections.

TransLash Presents: Seduction of Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria
Disinformation must spread in ways that are imperceptible and seemingly organic. Join us for Episode 3 of Season 2 of the Anti-Trans Hate Machine for a deep dive into the massive influence of the fringe blog 4th Wave Now, where parents who are hostile to their trans kids gather to spread conspiracy theories about the origins of gender identity. It’s influenced liberal parents like Jeanne Ogden, who used ideas in the blog to help justify blocking her daughter Cam from receiving the care she needs. Learn how Jeanne and Cam are working to pick up the pieces, after being manipulated by this disinformation. And how, despite the harm, journalists like Jesse Singal grabbed the idea of trans social contagion and ran with it.

TransLash Presents: Detransition Pseudo-Science and Misleading Examples
Disinformation campaigns need archetypes to advance their propaganda. In Episode 2 of the Anti-Trans Hate Machine Season 2, we see how Christian Nationalists have teamed up with TERFs, and even Dianic Witches, to find people who are “ex-trans” in a hopeless attempt to show that transgender people aren’t real. Join us as we follow Ky Schevers and her journey into the depths of the detransition movement. We will learn how her story was seized upon by pseudo-scientific groups and the harm it caused both to Ky and the community she loves.

Trans Family Child Separation
Republicans in Texas and Florida are pursuing a devastating new line of attack against trans youth: separating them from their supportive parents. This week, Imara discusses the politics and consequences of these family separation efforts with two people working on the frontlines. First, she’s joined by former Texas Child Protective Services employee Morgan Hardee Davis, who shares his harrowing experience of being forced to investigate loving, trans-affirming families, and his decision to resign in protest. Next, Imara talks with the Director of the Transgender Rights Initiative at Southern Legal Counsel, Simone Chriss, about the state of Florida’s attempt to manipulate custody rules to provide a safe haven for transphobic parents.

TransLash Presents: Conversion Therapy: The Disinformation Blueprint
Every day, attacks on trans kids grow louder, and more anti-trans bills keep moving through state legislatures. How did this happen? In Episode 1 of the Anti-Trans Hate Machine Season 2, we tell you how lessons learned by Christian Nationalists twenty years ago, in the fight to undermine gay rights by preserving conversion therapy, set the stage for today. Join us as we show how the ability to manufacture pseudoscientific theories and push them out in the mainstream across three decades led to today’s crisis.

Amazing!
Thankful to have a podcast that lifts up trans voices and makes a point of centering trans joy.
Love this!
I can’t get enough of this podcast ^_^ the host is so honest and to the point. I’ve learned so much by listening to this and The Anti-Trans Hate Machine. I cannot recommend this podcast enough!
Thank you for everything
It’s been a while since I had time to listen, way too long. The greatest thing about these podcasts is that I can literally feel it nourishing my soul. I love listening to all the different stories and experiences told by trans women, all who have come before me and blazed trails. Imara has such an easy way about her, nothing feels forced she gives everyone enough space to tell their story, to tell their truth. I also love hearing about trans women from the southern US because that’s where I live. We have different challenges in the south that I feel like the younger generation from the northeast and west coast just couldn’t imagine. As a newbie to being trans, I’m trying to be a sponge learning all I can, and for anyone this podcast is a great resource. I follow Imara on Twitter and she’s great there as well. Thanks for everything, love everyone involved in this podcast. Maybe someday I can come on and tell my story. Yours truly Jules
