On Trash Flow Radio on Sat July 13, the episode was bifurcated. In the second hour, the great Cincinnati band Leggy stopped by to preview their forthcoming gig on Wed July 24 at Bogarts with Japan's all-female experimental buzz band Otoboke Beaver [おとぼけビ～バ～]. [Fellow Cincinnati band Spoils -- fronted by Trash Flow Radio's own DJ Dog Bite -- will be the opener]. Before that, In the first hour, we memorialized the late Cleveland punk artist/impresario John Thompson a/k/a/ "Johnny Dromette" (April 12, 1952 – July 7, 2024), with tracks from Pere Ubu, The Pagans, and X___X. We also played new tracks from Weak Signal, Stephen Pastel & Gavin Thomson ("Memorial Device"), The Wendys, The Drin, and Louse. Plus: old faves & rarities from The Pieces of Shit (Will Oldham side-project), The Gorch (Scharpling & Wurster), and Hedonista. And: July 13 birthday tracks from Tari Barr O'Bannon (Grayson Hall, Antman, Pure Jesus, Juanita); Bill Million (The Feelies); Roger McGuinn (1942) (The Byrds); and Tom King (1942-2011) (The Outsiders).

On a solo-hosted episode of Trash Flow Radio on Sat Aug 24, I played new tracks from Scrunchies, David Christian (Comet Gain), Chime School, Rotzkotz, En Attendant Ana, Sophie's Dream, Carnage Asada, Chimers, David Lance Callahan, and Guided By Voices (re-recording a classic hit). I also memorialized the late Justin Chearno (June 5, 1970 - Aug 21, 2024), with choice tracks from his bands Pitchblende and Turing Machine. (Justin also played bass in Doldrums, Panthers, and, briefly, Unrest). To celebrate the departure of the brain-worm-impaired bear-dumper from the U.S. Presidential race, I played songs about the Kennedys from Kiwi Jr, The Soft Boys, and Inside Llewyn Davis. I squeezed in an old fave from Built To Spill, who will perform in Cincinnati on Tuesday. And I celebrated the Aug 24 Birthdays of R&B kingpin Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup (1905-1974); novelty-rock savant Mason Williams (1938); guitarist/vocalist Joe Chambers (1942-2024) (The Chambers Brothers) (covering Curtis Mayfield); British reggae pioneer Linton Kwesi Johnson (1952), Ohio's own Don Howland (1962) (Gibson Bros, Bassholes); guitarist/composer Katherine "Kaki" King (1979) (collaborating with The Mountain Goats); Cincinnati's Lo-Fi City impresario Jonathan Stout (1985) (Sleepy Drums); and Argentine surrealist postmodernist author Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986). Trash Flow Radio Aug 31, 2024 (Labor Day + Cindependent Film Festival Preview)

On Trash Flow Radio on Sat Aug 31, I aired the world radio premiere of a new studio recording from Wussy (covering Bill Fay). I also celebrated Labor Day with songs and stories about work and labor from The Golden Boys, Cherry Chérie (covering L'Internationale), Cate Le Bon, 3 Swimmers, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Dennis The Menace, Bob Black, Billy Bragg, The Nerves, Jeffrey Lewis (covering CRASS), Tim Timebomb (covering Merle Travis), Lee Dorsey, The Cleaners From Venus, and three American Presidents. And I delivered a scene report from this weekend's Heedfest 12 in Dayton Ohio, which I topped off with an unreleased Guided By Voices track produced by Steve Albini. I also celebrated a few Aug 31 birthdays, with tracks from George Ivan "Van" Morrison (1945), Gina Schock (1957) (The Go-Go's, Edie & The Eggs), and Greg Curry (1966) (Harry Jansing & the Jansingettes). And I played choice tracks from artists performing in town this week, including Inert (Mark Messerly of Wussy) and Sweeping Promises. In the second hour, I was joined in the studio by Jonny Shenk & Jim Crooks of the Cindependent Film Festival, who helpfully previewed the movies playing at this year's forthcoming event. This year's Cindependent Film Festival will take place on Thurs Sept 19, Fri Sept 20, and Sat Sept 21. All films will be screened in Memorial Hall, which will also host some musical performances during happy hour each day. Ticket prices are very low. And: at some length, on this episode I slagged two crooked local businesses on-air: Clarkson Eyecare and Joseph Toyota.
