The family who thought they weren't a fit for Traveling Village | S2 EP16

As Traveling Village 3 comes to an end, Asha speaks with Dave and Cait, a family from Pennsylvania who joined the village with their two young boys, ages three and six. Unlike many people drawn to alternative education or long-term travel, Dave and Cait saw themselves as fairly traditional. They had never worldschooled, never traveled internationally with their children, and were unsure whether something like Traveling Village would even work for their family. Four months later, they are reflecting on what surprised them most. They talk about leaving a snowy winter behind for life in Vietnam, discovering the unexpected magic of co-living in Taiwan, adapting to life with young children on the road, and finding a community where they no longer had to explain their choices. The conversation explores what Traveling Village looks like through the eyes of a family with young kids, full-time jobs, and plenty of doubts before arriving. The podcast follows 21 families as we travel together through Vietnam, Taiwan, and South Korea as a village. This season, Asha, who joined Traveling Village 1, calls in every week to talk with different people on the trip and follow along from afar. Each episode is around 20 minutes and is meant to give an honest, grounded sense of what village life feels like as it unfolds. In this sixteenth episode, Asha, Dave, and Cait talk about: Why Traveling Village felt different from other family travel programs Joining with a three-year-old and a six-year-old Taking their son out of kindergarten for four months Why educators were more supportive than they expected Leaving winter behind and arriving in Vietnam How co-living became the highlight of the entire journey What surprised them most about traveling with young children Why their kids loved The Nest more than Disney The challenge of balancing work, parenting, and village life How different life stages create different village experiences Finding community without giving up independence The unexpected comfort of being surrounded by people who understand your choices Why they are already considering another Traveling Village In the next episode, Asha speaks with another family as the final chapter of Traveling Village 3 comes to a close

Why "The Nest" became the heartbeat of Traveling Village | S2 EP15

As Traveling Village 3 enters its final weeks in South Korea, Asha calls in to speak with Beth, one of the village scouts helping run "The Nest," the shared community space that has quietly become the center of daily life for many families on the journey. Beth travels with her 18-year-old daughter Grace and brings a background in teaching, worldschooling, and alternative learning communities. Together, they help create activities, rhythms, and spaces that bring the village together across ages, personalities, and cultures. They talk about why The Nest works so differently from traditional schooling setups, what happens when parents stay fully involved instead of dropping kids off, and how consistency, shared rituals, and simple activities can completely change the feeling of community life. The conversation also explores Beth's years working in worldschool hubs around the world, the challenges of traveling with children, and what makes community actually feel sustainable long term. In this fifteenth episode, Asha and Beth talk about: How "The Nest" became a shared living room for the village Creating activities for toddlers, teenagers, and everyone in between Why Traveling Village chose a non-drop-off model for kids The challenge of building rhythm and calm inside a large traveling community How consistency and familiar faces help children adapt between countries The balance between structured learning and self-directed exploration Beth's experiences working in worldschool hubs and traveling microschools Why community matters even more when families are constantly moving The hidden challenges of worldschooling and long-term travel What makes certain locations work better for village life than others How older kids became "junior scouts" and started shaping activities themselves The future of The Nest and how the concept might evolve in future villages In the next episode, Asha speaks with another family from the village as Traveling Village 3 slowly approaches its final weeks.

Nikolaj on TV3 so far and where it's going next | S2 EP13

Asha checks back in with Nikolaj as the village has just arrived in South Korea for the final part of the journey. They talk through the full experience so far. Starting in Vietnam and why that soft landing mattered more than expected. The contrast with Taiwan and how a more challenging location changed the rhythm and the way people connected. And now South Korea, where everything feels more open, social, and full of options. They also get into what has actually worked this time around. The Nest, the weekly rhythm, and how it has changed the pace of village life compared to earlier versions. Less decision fatigue, more predictability, and more space to just show up. Beyond the current trip, they talk about what's coming next. The shift towards shorter villages, the idea of a more continuous, global community, and how Traveling Village and ReVillage might eventually connect into something bigger. This episode is more of a check-in from inside the village as it's unfolding, looking both at what's happening right now and where it might go next.
