Convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh is headed to federal court to plead guilty for the first time in any of his criminal cases. True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell take a look at the timing of this plea deal and how his motion for a new trial — with his bombshell accusations of jury-tampering — fit into Team Murdaugh’s larger plan.

Update: Murdaugh did plead guilty in federal court today as Mandy and David live chatted the event to Premium Members on Discord. Sentencing will occur at a later date. Keep in mind: the SC AG currently has custody of Alex as “primary custodian” for life sentences but promised to deliver/loan him to any federal hearings and in essence Alex didn’t object to that back in May. And when sentenced federally, the bureau of prisons / federal judge can execute/order sentence to be consecutive or concurrent to state sentence… but he’ll serve it in the care of primary custodian.

At the end of an epic three-part hearing Thursday, South Carolina Judge Clifton Newman sentenced Alex Murdaugh’s former best friend and co-conspirator Cory Fleming to 20 years in state prison for his role in helping Alex steal millions from the Satterfield and Pinckney families.
True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell break down that dramatic hearing, plus they discuss what went down in two other hearings that happened in this same courtroom: One for Alex and one for Russell Laffitte.


Liz and Mandy have also spent days dissecting those documents as the accusations against Becky were very serious. Last week, things spiraled into chaos again when Dick and Jim filed a long and shocking motion accusing clerk of Court Becky Hill of jury tampering. 
We also spent a lot of time rereading Becky Hill’s book. Did we find concerning things? Yes. Do we think there is a chance of a new trial with this? Not at all.. unless we hear new information that wasn’t included in that motion. Which could happen... We will do a deep dive on all of that in a future episode.

The first co-conspirator of Alex Murdaugh is finally behind bars! True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell attended Cory Fleming’s sentencing hearing this week in Charleston, South Carolina, where they watched Fleming — a former attorney who took advantage of Gloria Satterfield’s family — throw himself on the mercy of the court.
The two share highlights from the hearing and explore new questions, such as: Was this a real display of remorse? Or did this just get worse? Did the federal government get played by Alex Murdaugh’s former best friend?
As mentioned on Cup Of Justice, Fleming will serve 46 months in federal prison and pay $102,221 in restitution for his involvement in the scheme to steal millions from the Satterfield family. Moments after Judge Richard Gergel announced his sentence on August 15, Fleming voluntarily surrendered and was escorted out of the U.S. District Court in Charleston by U.S. Marshals.
