Great resource for Federal employees
Dallin does a fantastic job of explaining the numerous topics that Federal employees need to understand as they prepare for retirement. It’s easy to listen to him, and the pace at which he explains issues is spot on.
This guy is HORRIBLE at presenting a podcast
Here are all the reasons I simply cannot stand to listen to Dallen Hawes:
1. He is far too hyped-up. Dude, TONE IT DOWN. I am looking for solid information about my FERS benefits, presented in a professional and factual manner. What I don’t need is an over-hyped cheerleader. UGH!
2. Slow down!!!!!!!!! He is so ‘excited’ (see complaint #1), that he speeds up his speech at the end of 90% of his sentences, and you can’t understand what he is saying. Slow down and enunciate.
3. Quit saying ‘Right?’ at the end of practically every sentence. YOU’RE supposed to be the ‘expert’, and you’re saying ‘right?’ constantly sounds as though you’re looking to your audience for validation. Stop it!!
4. Learn some new vocabulary words. Quit saying ‘huge’ (as always, you’ve over-hyped whenever you think something is big), and for the love of God, quit saying it 3 times, every time you use it (as in ‘This is huge, huge, huge). Double UGH!
5. Get to the point!!!!!!!!! I don’t need your useless 5-minute wind-up. Just state the facts, and move on.
6. Quit using the horribly grammatically incorrect train wreck “Where you’re at”. The ‘at’ is implied by the ‘where’. Just stop.
7. Quit smacking your lips every 5th word. That’s just nasty🤢
8. Quit saying you’re going to ‘dig deep’. You have NEVER followed up on this promise. Digging deep into any one FERS benefit would involve at least a 45-60 min discussion. You’re 5-6 minutes are always a joke.
9. Join a Toastmaster Club. Toastmasters is for people who want to improve their public speaking skills - and you have no where to go but UP.
10. Want to break all the bad habits listed above? Have someone sit next to you while you record your podcast. Every time you make one of the above mistakes, they should spray you in the face with a water pistol - seriously!! You’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll break some of your HORRIBLE speaking habits.
