Didn’t know the main character

I was so excited to listen to a podcast after I finished “Where the Crawdads Sing,” and after about 5 mins into this podcast one of these guys said, “who’s Chase?” (Aka a main character). Yea, turned it off. Why would I listen to a book podcast from someone who hasn’t read the book?
