Episode 127 - Joe D. Seals the Deal

This week we talk about how Joe DiMaggio dominated the PCL before donning the pinstripes. He suited up for his hometown San Francisco Seals for an odd reason and soon caught the eye of MLB teams back east with his bat. Plus we talk Guardians baseball, the rangers futility, Lars Nootbaar (ofcourse), partake in some listener trivia and remember Charlie Kerfeld’s outstanding pranks in our debuts segment. Finally, we start off a new season of Wax Pack Heroes with a specially curated pair of packs provided by a listener. Who will start this year off on top?

Episode 126 - The Umpire Said What? The Funniest Man in Blue Ever, Ron Luciano

Episode 126 - The Umpire Said What? The Funniest Man in Blue Ever, Ron Luciano

This week we find out some minor league teams just never learn when it comes to beer promotions, we look back at a truly historical Padres-Nats game and ofcourse Lars Nootbaar. Our main story this week is the larger than life former MLB umpire (not Eric Gregg) Ron Luciano. From shooting out players on the bases to chatting them up at homeplate, Luciano probably had more fun than anybody else on the field. We recount many of his stories. Plus Wax Pack Heroes playing it loose with some loose singles that were sent to us. We definitely pulled some names that we haven’t discussed before.

Episode 124 - Tales from the Dugout v18

Episode 124 - Tales from the Dugout v18

It’s been a couple of weeks so it’s time to empty out the strange but true baseball stories that have piled up since the last one. We sample some “unique” music form the Diamondbacks stadium, highlight some players other than Bobby Bonilla that are still getting paid, take a look at what Lars Nootbaar is up to this week as well as relive some classic baseball car pranks, Bo Jackson doing Bo Jackson things in a pool and Johnny Bench putting a veteran pitcher in his place as a rookie. Finally, another episode of Wax Pack Heroes, hint we pulled a Gregg Jefferies rookie card, so we basically hit the lottery.

Episode 123 - Rick Rizzs, Mariners Radio Voice

Episode 123 - Rick Rizzs, Mariners Radio Voice

Longtime radio voice of the Seattle Mariners, Rick Rizzs joins us this week. If it’s happened in baseball, Rick has seen it. Probably twice. We cover alot of topics with Rick including a never before heard follow up on Jello-Gate (which we covered in episode 89), Ken Griffey Jr. Getting grounded and just how many times Lou Pinella could kick his cap after getting tossed for arguing a bad call on the field. Plus, Rick opens a pack of 1992 Leaf baseball cards with us and remembers some great stories about the players we pull including one of this broadcast patterns.

Love this show

I learn something new every time I listen. Press “Play” for cool tidbits of baseball history, then stay for the always-fun Wax Pack Heroes!

Great BB Talk

The opening of the wax packs is always good, plus the the other stuff. Thanks. The Greatest Giveaways show is hilarious, what a bunch of excellent and obscure baseball factoids! The Wax Pack Hero’s song is most excellent. (Maybe lay off the sauce a bit, you seemed to be in slow motion last time....) The fact that you don’t like Joe Morgan as an announcer speaks very ill of you, I’m sorry for your lack of taste. Ya better keep Mark around to balance that out.

Thanks for the knowledge!

This is such a great podcast! These guys relay the facts in a fun and interesting way. The segments are hilarious and I have thoroughly enjoyed bingeing to catch up. Keep up the great work!
