Elizabeth Gilbert on Creating Yourself
ICYMI: This guest is perhaps best known for her memoir "EAT PRAY LOVE," which chronicled her personal journey of self-discovery and inspired thousands of readers. Elizabeth Gilbert and I spoke about how creatives, writer and artists of all kind often suffer with the torment of their own creativity rather than being in symbiosis with it. Is is it necessary to be a victim of your art and to be that tormented artist, in order to create great work? We discuss the role our egos play in our work and how all of this can be transposed and reflected in our day to day relationships.
This is a fantastic conversation from the early days of the pandemic, and is sure to inspire you today.
Elizabeth was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine. Her latest book, "City of Girls" is available now in paperback.
Enjoy! -
Matthew McConaughey on Spirituality, Art, Fame, and More
Best of "Under the Skin." You know him from his incredible movie performances in "Mud," "Dallas Buyers Club," "Interstellar" and "Magic Mike," but did you know Matthew McConaughey is a professor of practice at the University of Texas and Minister of Culture for the City of Austin? His book, "Greenlights," is an unconventional memoir filled with raucous stories and lessons learned the hard way.
This episode is packed full wisdom, life lessons and thoughts on how to progress into the future. Matthew has had a well travelled and interesting relationship with spirituality and even agnosticism. He has tested himself over the years in order to learn more about himself, and he gives us a detailed insight in what has made him who is today. We discuss how interfacing with fame affected us both and how we travelled through it, and touched on how we both see the political and economic landscape at the moment. What is it that we prioritise in society today? And is it in the correct order? You are sure to enjoy it!

Judd Apatow on Divine Comedy
This one is too good not to bring back. In this "Best of Under the Skin" episode, director, producer and writer of many of the biggest comedy films and hit TV shows of the last two decades, Judd Apatow, joins Russell to discuss everything from writing for the Larry Sanders Show, the things that fuel creativity, the power of intuition, and the magic of comedy!
Judd had recently finished "The King of Staten Island," featuring Pete Davidson, when this interview occurred. He is also known for films such as "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Knocked Up," "This Is 40," and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," in which he cast Russell (which helped propel Russell into the world of Hollywood acting). -
Conan O'Brien on the Role of the Trickster
[Best of "Under the Skin:" ] Conan O’Brien is a comedian, writer, podcaster, and producer and the longest-working of all the current US late-night talk show hosts with 26 years on our screens. We spoke about friendship, when and how we discovered comedy, what it’s like to encounter fame and the destruction it can cause, and when we first met! I hope you enjoy!

Constant Fresh Perspectives
I love this show. The guests are always well thought and diverse to help you think of different ideas. Russell asks hard questions while still keeping an open mind and allowing people to explain their thoughts. Cannot recommend this show brought.

He’s a good host with good topics and good guests but OMG what a huge painstaking long process it is to even hear it. Go to your app app. Upgrade it. (And you can’t pause or unsubscribe and still hear content, so you’ll have to come back again later so you’re not automatically billed.)
