Lenore Skenazy Wants Us to Free Range Our Kids

Lenore Skenazy Wants Us to Free Range Our Kids

Lenore Skenazy has been fighting against helicopter parenting ever since 2008 when she published her controversial and eye-opening column about letting her then 9-year-old ride the subway home alone. That inspired her to found Free-Range Kids, which consists of a book, blog and movement dedicated to the belief that kids are not in constant danger. Her book is titled Free-Range Kids, How to Raise Safe, Self-Reliant Children (Without Going Nuts with Worry). Lenore is also president of Let Grow, a non-profit organization that promotes independence for kids. Previous to these roles, Lenore was a reporter-turned-columnist at The New York Daily News for nearly 14 years.

In this episode, Lenore tells Hilaria and Daphne about the virtues of allowing children to be reasonably more independent and take more chances. She says that letting kids play on their own can free them from fears and allow them to problem solve on their own, which will only benefit them as they mature.

Review of reviews

I have been curious about this podcast so i checked out the reviews just now and saw 99% of them complain about H constantly interrupting and talking over so maybe not.

MaryBlmnfld ,

Could be so great!

The guests and content on this show are so great. Unfortunately, Hilaria is constantly interrupting the guests. It’s distracting and annoying. And usually, what she inserts is inconsequential or unrelatable. I feel like she’s often waiting to talk/interject her opinion or story and not really listening to the guest.

Slow down and listen so we can hear what your guests have to say.

PS, love Daphne - articulate and educated... and always on point.

Rmc009 ,

🤷‍♀️

Great podcast. Except Hilaria can’t stop talking over others, including the guests and Daphne. The only time she didn’t interrupt was when Tracy Anderson asked if you still need your mom! She was silent then. Obviously she doesn’t have a good relationship with her family.
