What an insightful episode. My son lives at home and commutes to SU, we don’t live far away, about 20 minutes. It just didn’t make financial sense to pay more for him to live on campus. He is able to live here rent free in exchange for excellent grades and a show of responsibility. When I was growing up, my parents told me I had to move out as soon as I turned 18. They were literally counting down the days. I was in no way prepared and wound up joining the military (where I met my husband... so there’s that) but I had massive amounts of debt that took over a decade to correct due to not being financially ready or educated about credit when I moved out. I think the message you gave that it’s okay to live at home while you’re preparing for life is an important one that we must share with our community.

Thanks!
