UC 414: Healing Beyond the Spine: Terry Holmes on Chiropractic, Cancer, and Conscious Health

In this deeply personal and inspiring episode of Up for a Chat, Kim Morrison and Cyndi O’Meara welcome chiropractor Dr Terry Holmes, whose remarkable journey spans from kickboxing injuries to running thriving chiropractic clinics in London and Melford. Together, they explore: Terry’s early struggles with pain and how chiropractic care changed his life The evolution of his career from a Notting Hill practice to building a holistic healing space in Melford The misunderstood truth about chiropractic care and how it goes far beyond “back cracking” How spinal health plays a profound role in mental health and nervous system regulation Personal stories of loss, cancer, and health transformation, including Terry’s father’s pancreatic cancer journey and the decisions that shaped it The importance of creating a healing environment that supports body, mind, and spirit How Covid-19 shifted public attitudes toward proactive, preventative health measures Tips for finding the right chiropractor and why connection and philosophy matter This episode is a heartfelt reminder that health is not just about fixing symptoms—it’s about empowering people to thrive by removing interference and supporting the body’s innate intelligence. Dr Terry Holmes began his journey into health and wellness after a head injury and the loss of his father to pancreatic cancer. Finding profound healing through chiropractic care—physically, mentally, and spiritually—he dedicated his life to helping others through this modality. Alongside his wife Siobhan, also a chiropractor, Terry has worked around the world, from Hokitika to Notting Hill, and now runs a thriving family practice in Milford, Auckland. His mission is to create healthier communities by empowering people to live their fullest lives through natural health care. Quotes Chiropractic care gave me a real passion for health. Chiropractic is about removing interference from the nervous system. You will find not every person will love what you do. We never say we ‘cure’ anyone. As you adjust, you affect the parasympathetic nervous system and help it to calm. Your spine is your central nervous system. A lot of go-getters think like we do. I gravitate towards being positive and proactive. People want human interaction and need connection. You have to own what you do. We all practice differently. The main thing we do is help our patients. Our intention is to have a positive healing energy Where to Find Dr Terry Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chiropractic.alchemy Website: https://chiropracticalchemy.co.nz/ Cyndi O’Meara Links Website – https://thenutrition.academy/ Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/cyndiomeara/ https://www.instagram.com/thenutrition_academy/ Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/cyndi.lovetto https://www.facebook.com/thechnutritionacademy Kim Morrison Links Website – https://www.kimmorrison.com/ Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/kimmorrison28/ https://www.instagram.com/twenty.8.essential/ Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/KimMorrisonTraining https://www.facebook.com/twenty8essentials

UC 411: From Struggle to Strength: Chiropractic, Family & Functional Movement with Dr Tim Leeming

In this raw and inspiring episode, we sit down with Dr Tim Leeming, chiropractor, sports nutritionist, and co-founder of Being Chiropractic in Gympie, QLD. Tim shares his incredible journey — from his early days as an athlete and movement coach to the traumatic birth of his first daughter, Sage, which completely reshaped his purpose and approach to health. Alongside his wife, Dr Casie Leeming, Tim has since travelled the world studying with leading chiropractors and paediatric neurological experts. Now, as a passionate practitioner and father of two, he brings a deeply personal lens to his work, helping families and individuals reconnect to their nervous systems, their bodies, and their natural rhythms through chiropractic care and simple, intentional movement. Quotes I owe a lot of my good character and values to many miles on that river. I learned hard work. persistance and dogged determination. Chiropractic just landed for me, it made sense. Chiropractic is helping the human body to experience health, performance and everything in between. Sage’s condition was a real moment of surrender. We were in a sympathetic state of flight or fight, confusion and grief. Understanding what disabilities she had was a heavy thing to carry. Emergency medicine was amazing and kept her alive. You can look at it as a whole with death at one end and vitality at the other. A symptomw ill do something or give you something to get rid of. We checked and adjusted Sage multiple times a day. We used music at 512Hz, essential oils, prayers, community, a Facebook group rooting for us, meditation and visualisation. A child goes through various stages from birth – 1: Breathe; 2: Turn the head; 3: Learn to suck and swallow; 4: Learn to digest and poop. As a father, a male, you just want to get in there and help… and you can’t. She chose well having us as parents. Sage is a very robust healthy kid. Fever is the perfect response to an invading pathogen. Have full faith and trust in the capacity of our body’s and babies body’s to do what they need to heal. Tony gave me such clarity, conviction and certainty. Life pulls us in the right direction. Be a beacon of hope, help and light. Life will always humble you. It is all my own responsibility and for me to figure out. Our health is our responsibility. It’s very rarely genes or bad luck. Nobody has your health in their hands, you do. We had help, guidance and colleagues from every angle. Many men would understand this, but Sage pulled me back home and realise my values hierarchy. It can be overwhelming but it is about the art of discernment. It takes time and repetition and you will get better as a skill but it has to be intentional. The spine is the taile of the brain. Take responsibilty for your own health. There is a depth of value with grandparents and elders. The generation has wisdom, guidance, a way of life and behaviours that are so important. The answers you are looking for may be a lot more simple than you think. We take the complex and make it really simple. I stand on the shoulders of giants. We all need support as we have our own story. We do everything for each other and together. The uplevelling has made our relationship sweeter. Everything I do, he’s my first thought. Marriage has intensified the commitment in me. My level of independence relaxed. Initially it was for the growth of business and articulating my clients message. Now it’s spiritual expansion. The Universe is my business partner. The Universe’s currency is energy. People don’t really know what we should be doing. There is no shortcut or quick-fix. Do what you love as you’ll be doing it a long time. The duality is always there. Everything is energy. Am I operating from outside in or is my inside influencing the outside? Life is so friggin short, so fragile. I’m growing into myself as time goes on. I feel things, I feel people, I feel the situation. Nothing is random. Everything is purposeful, everything is energy, everything is life for more life. This podcast has always been about shedding light on dark places. Instead of calling ourselves leaders, we’re calling ourselves coaches. The Universe requires 100% participation. Part of what gives the complexity of me as a coach is lived experience. There comes a time when certain traumas are personal. Bali was my most courageous, most clear, most free version of myself. It is a reminder of my rawness. I leave my personality behind and be as naked as I can for myself and others. I’m still a work in progress. There’s a lot of love and meaning in myself now. I feel very revealed.
