UPSIDE DOWN KINGDOM Week 2: BROKEN HEARTS AND FRESH STARTS Powell Butte Christian Church

    • Christianity

Last week we began a series on the Sermon on the Mount (Mt. 5-7)
This week, Beatitude #2 - some think this is a paradox. BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN. Or - Happy are the Sad. What in the world??
Let’s take a closer look at the verse. "Blessed are those that mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4
Does this really mean that we should be happy when we’re sad, or sad when we’re happy?
Does it mean that we go around looking like the frozen chosen, scowls on our face?
Actually - like the first Beatitude, this involves a spiritual characteristic that is connected to our sinful human condition, In other words, our response to the wrong-doing in our lives. And that makes sense, because once we realize our poverty of spirit and our desperate need for grace, we will experience a deep sorrow for our sins.
How sorry are YOU for the wrong you do in your life?
