Difficult conversations can be just that – difficult. Sometimes we are timid or don’t know the word/phrasing to use to convey the thoughts we have. Sometimes those thoughts break our brains a little bit and we may falter to explain what we are thinking – those concepts are in our brains but they haven’t found their way out yet and we are at a loss of words trying to explain these thoughts floating in our heads to others. We really do ourselves a disservice when we fail to engage in these conversations – no matter how difficult or uncomfortable they may be at times. We are three friends who have had these conversations over the years, and while we are serious and dedicated to these conversations we like to have fun during these conversations as well. Join us as we have these conversations - and even if we take positions that you don't agree with - engage with us (respectfully) and use your words.

    Accountability: 2021 Edition

    Accountability: 2021 Edition

Accountability is a hard thing to do. Why? Because in order to be accountable you need to be fully transparent with the other person - even when things get messy. During a recent conversation with Aaron he admitted that recently he was having trouble seeing the necessity for transparency and accountability so we continued a conversation that we started last fall and recorded it.

What do we do about Chimeras? Are there any moral objections to them?

What do we do about Chimeras? Are there any moral objections to them?

Recently scientist have found a way to make hybrid human/monkey embryo live for a total of fourteen days inside of a petri dish. Previously (in 2017) scientist found a way to make a half human, half pig chimera while doing research. These advancements have raised various issues in the research community on if they should now allow embryos to live for a total of 28 days instead of the 14 days on the books in multiple countries, as well if we should continue the research into chimera embryos.
While doing these other experiments, researchers have also found a way to raise mice in artificial wombs to the halfway point of gestation - a first in the scientific world.
With all of these advancements in artificially growing embryos - what are we to do about that as Christians. What sort of moral dilemmas does this represent? What do we do about half human half animal x embryos? Also if we are raising animal just for organs how is that different then raising animals to eat them?

Can we text in our mental health?

The year 2020 has led to an increase in a demand for mental health services. With this rapid increase in mental health requests, and the increased need for masking up and being socially distanced - online therapy sessions have increased in popularity. In the rise of this - online therapy applications have rose in popularity offering the convenience of being able to text a therapist at any hour of the day and get a response - at least that is what is sold in the ads for these applications. Let's take a look at these applications and how effective they are - with opinions from someone who has been to therapy before.

Are We On The Path For A Population Implosion?

Are We On The Path For A Population Implosion?

This week we take a look at some recently scientific research which suggests that instead of a population boom - we are on the verge of a population implosion. Now there is a very fascinating series of articles that outline how various factors all combine to decrease the birth rate as well as the fertility of both sexes/genders. Due to various factors (including changes in society) we are quickly seeing a decrease in the replacement fertility around the world, with most studies agreeing that by 2050 69% of the countries will have a replacement fertility below 2.1. In fact - at that time, most studies agree that the worldwide population increase year over year will be down to 0.53% from the barely over 1% of 2020. We look at some of the information presented by the studies, and what this means for us as the human race going forward.

What exactly is freedom and what are the limits of it?

What exactly is freedom and what are the limits of it?

This week Aaron brought up the idea of talking about freedom. While initially Aaron wants to talk about how people are proposing using the carrot of "freedoms" to coerce people to get the Covid-19 vaccine. While this conversation starts there - and Aaron admits he is not a fan of this - we eventually move forward in the conversation to talk about the first amendment and how it applies to social media and private companies.

    Covetous Culture

    Covetous Culture

This week we talk about that uncomfortable conversation around coveting. Now for those not familiar with the word - essentially coveting is yearning for things or situations that other people showcase. Current society, through social media primarily, highlights people's new possessions as well as adventures as something to be desired. People look at what others are posting on their various feeds and talk about how they wish they could have that item/that experience. What makes something coveting, and why is coveting (outside of a biblical worldview) bad? This week Aaron and Paul talk about this.

Good Discussions and Banter

It’s fun listening to this podcast and they provide good discussion and insights.

Good idea - needs a lot of work

Jumped into my first episode for the conversation on transgender athletes. I always appreciate a genuine conversation between friends to learn and grow, but this was hard to listen to. I’m glad the main host streamlined the conversation and had obviously done some prior reading before jumping into the discussion...because the other two definitely did not.

If you want to publish a conversation on transgender individuals participating in sports, you should probably have a MINIMAL understanding on how/why someone identifies as transgender. It’s definitely helpful to know what testosterone is. I also found it quite distasteful and offensive to throw out that someone “just decided to” identify as another gender. I’ll add here that I identify as a cisgender man, so I seem less biased.

I think it’s very revealing that one of the hosts literally fell asleep during the conversation. This did not come across as enlightening, nor intriguing. I recommend you go find another podcast where legitimate conversations can be found.
