Being a great UX designer begins and ends with being a great human. We can't pour an empty cup into another. We can’t lead others where we are not.
This UX podcast helps UX’ers become the best, most powerful designers (and humans) they can be. Yes, you'll discover how-to’s, but much more importantly you'll discover why-to’s.
Every episode is sure to inspire and equip you on how to better fight for your users and business, and dare I say change the world (even if only for one human at a time) in a much deeper and more tangible way than you ever thought possible.
There and Back (and Forward) Again with Bob Baxley
Bob Baxley, a Silicon Valley pioneer, takes us back in time through the history of Silicon Valley and gives us a glimpse into the future of it. Spoiler alert: He's got concerns. He also likens our work to building sandcastles on the beach, causing us to reflect on the brevity and temporal nature of it, and inspires us to make everything we make with our friends (for others) count.
Conflict Resolution for People Who Hate Conflict with Josh Mauldin
Josh Mauldin shows us how resolving conflict not only makes us better humans, but better designers. He challenges us to approach conflict with a growth mindset and the question, "What can I learn from this?". He articulates the difference between healthy and unhealthy conflict and teaches us why healthy conflict is good and even worth pursuing. He also reveals how embracing conflict is the catalyst for building the best teams, the best products, and the best you.
User Research? Game On with Steve Bromley
Steve Bromley shows us how to level up our user research skills. He illuminates the path to getting started as a Games User Researcher. He inspires us to use our user research superpower and insights to make things better for our users. He teaches us techniques he's used to actually enjoy synthesizing data more. He reveals how many user's is enough–spoiler alert...it depends.
You Belong Here with Jessica Gaddis
Jessica Gaddis motivates us to realize that we belong here. Not only in the field of design, but in this often painful and perplexing world we call home. Why? Because somewhere, sometime, somehow...someone needs us. She touches on the unwelcome voice in many of our heads known as imposter syndrome and how she’s been able to successfully combat it. She shares with us how advocating for black women in design as a mentor has been one of the most rewarding and impactful design decisions she’s ever made.
Designers, Mind Your Business with Pek Pongpaet
Pek Pongpaet teaches us how to be business-minded designers. He reveals how designers with business knowledge and more tools in their tool belt will get hired more often than ones without and with less...
The Unstoppable Designer with Jeff Gothelf
Jeff Gothelf tells us how to be unstoppable designers. He debunks the mythical creature known as Phase 2. He shows us what a designer effectively working in Agile looks like, and enlightens us to how new UX teams can show immediate value. He articulates the need to differentiate between outputs and outcomes. He also motivates us to stay humble and curious since you can teach anyone technical skills, but you can’t teach someone humility and curiosity.
Incredible resource for upcoming User Defenders
EZ 5 stars. A complete inspiration for anyone looking for a great listen.
I stumbled across the User Defenders podcast in the start of my own UX journey, just recently during a house move.
I was hooked from the first episode I listened to.
As someone who does not have a design background but looking to break into the industry, it was refreshing and inspiring to hear from the superheroes that are fighting for the users.
Their stories show that no matter who you are, being empathetic to the users and being the voice in the darkness for them is one of the many ways to succeed in the growing field.
Jason does an amazing job, making each conversation he has with a super guest engaging and worth every minute played.
Highly recommend to anyone, at any level.
An incredible resource
I'm currently in a UX bootcamp. I found your podcast and have probably learned more meaningful lessons from you than my $7k course.
Jason's passion for UX is obvious. This show is all about heart.
Thank you for everything that you do.
