Dr. Gottlieb is a naif about the bible

I was privileged to study with teachers well versed in biblical text and contemporary theology in seminars where students dug deeply into how to interpret both. I do not read the bible (Christian and Jewish) through the narrow lens he does. The picture he paints of what his grandparents believed and taught him is no doubt accurate. But they lacked the education he has had in both, He is rebelling against his grandparents, which is fine. He should relax The bible does not paint a single picture of God or human life.; it paints many. Just compare the great major prophetic books and Ecclesiastes with the narratives that emerged from our earlier millennia. We Jews never read the biblical texts without commentary (teachers, all). Modern scholars recognize the great poetry of the bible. Hearing it works wonders in the mind and spirit. Immersion in the bible along with modern thinkers like Lord Jonathan Saks, Rabbi Arthur Green, and Robert Alter deepens the mind and enhances the spirit.
insightful, spiritual and compassionate

Those three words best describe Dr Gottlieb and his Voices in the Family program. I used to listen religiously, but have moved out of the area. I thought I'd keep up through podcasts. I am disapointed how few are available.
fantastic podcast!

Very informative and yet so sensitive to the topics discussed. Wonderful host with an amazing depth and attention to the topics. I just wish the archives were available for podcasting!
