California has been in the news in December and January, with extreme rainfall and floods, and this situation occurs after many years of intense drought.

The Songkhram River in northeast Thailand is a tributary of the Mekong River, an important river in Asia. It provides essential habitat for more than 180 species of fish, with at least 58 species migrating between the basin and the Mekong River. 
The community members around the basin primarily work in fishing and floodplain agriculture, including rice cultivation and livestock, representing a sustainable economy within the communities.
Today our guest is Thanapon Piman, a Senior Research Fellow with SEI Asia. He has more than 15 years of academic and professional experience in hydrology, water resources planning and modeling, sustainable irrigation and hydropower development, and climate change adaptation.
In this episode, we discussed the Stockholm Environment Institute Initiative Water Beyond Boundaries and the community-based ecosystems in Thailand's lower Songkhram River basin.

In water management, we have to think about all those involved, communities, scientists, technology, and of course, the ecosystems that play an essential role on a small or large scale. During the second season's first episode conversation, we discuss Water Beyond Boundaries broadly and the main goals of this initiative. Adopting a single water narrative may lead to misinterpreting specific local challenges or denying how water is transferred through products or economic or physical connections across scales. We present how current water management approaches consider natural and social processes beyond boundaries and further explore the concept of water teleconnections with case studies from Colombia.
