The Way of the Heart Podcast is a conversation with Jake Khym and Brett Powell about journeying through life with a heart fully alive.
Relearning Masculinity with Morgan Snyder
Jake and Brett are joined by Morgan Snyder, author of Becoming a King and host of the blog and podcast Become Good Soil. Morgan, Jake, and Brett talk about sonship, how we have learned and can relearn masculinity, the role of adversity, and the restoration of the Church.
Importance of Character
Jake and Brett discuss the vital importance of character in men. Despite the negative cultural messages, authentic masculinity is good and needed. As men, we must decide who we will be before we decide what we will do. Articulating our values is necessary.
Men Who Shaped Us
Jake and Brett share about men who have shaped them in their masculine journey. There are men who mentor us (Paul's), men who are our peers (Barnabas'), and men we pour into (Timothy's). Acknowledging the influence these men have in our lives is valuable.
After sharing about an experience of attending a funeral, Jake and Brett talk about what some call the eulogy virtues, which are ways of living life that emphasize the character of a person more than their skills.
Masculinity (with Corey Robinson)
Jake and Brett are joined by Corey Robinson, a former Canadian Olympic wrestler, who speaks to young people about how to overcome adversity. After discussing Corey’s start in elite athletics, the three discuss numerous topics including masculinity, strength, addiction, mediocrity, marriage, and friendship.
Crucial Conversations (with Fr. Simon Lobo)
Jake and Brett are joined once again by their friend Fr. Simon Lobo, pastor at St. Benedict’s Parish in Halifax. They discuss the concept of crucial conversations. Our relationships develop one conversation at a time and growing in the ability to have crucial conversations is an important part of the masculine journey.

Love the Discussion Format
A priest friend of mine shared this podcast with just last night. So I listened to the way of the heart podcasts throughout the day, and came home really inspired, mainly by the spirit of the talks. My wife and I did the “what would you say to your 20 year old self”, and that took us on a 2 hour long conversation. Was one of the best conversations we’ve probably ever had in our almost 6 year marriage.
