We are feeling machines that think: A mindfulness practice in feeling The Fully Mindful with Melissa Chureau

    • Mental Health

Neuroscientist Antonio Damasio famously observed, "We are not thinking machines. We are feeling machines that think." And yet we spend most of our days in the space between our ears and don't pay a whole lot of attention to the rest of our body, and what it might be telling us. And yet, the body is smart. It's where we first comprehend feeling--whether joy, fear, excitement. We feel it in the body first, and then our minds get into the game. So, what if we spent more time paying attention to the body? I'm not talking about exercise--which is great, and we should do--but instead I'm talking about listening in, really feeling what we feel. That's what today's practice is. Sensing into our bodies to gain that wisdom, that  insight. If you are interested in learning more mindfulness practices or incorporating them into your daily life at home and work, reach out. I can help.
