Let’s make a small digression, we are going to give you a two for one on this review
in the April 2007 General Conference, Relief Society President Julie Beck laid down the law regarding how Mormons are to view obedience to restrictions on Coffee in regards to eternal exaltation. And this has become one of the most legendary general conference anecdotes in Mormon history and is less than two minutes long.

The Home Teachers (2004) Mormon Movie Reviews: Where LDS movie lovers belong!

The Home Teachers (2004) Mormon Movie Reviews: Where LDS movie lovers belong!

Welcome brothers and sisters to Mormon Movie Reviews: Where LDS movie lovers belong! My name is Dives

    EP 65 - The Home Teachers (2004)
    Running time: 80 minutes
    Genre: A religious comedy
    Rated: PG

    Synopsis
"The Home Teachers" is a delightful 2004 Mormon comedy film directed by Kurt Hale. The story revolves around two mismatched home teachers, Greg and Nelson, who are assigned to visit and support a struggling family in their congregation.

Greg, played by Michael Birkeland, is a well-meaning but somewhat clumsy and disorganized individual, while Nelson, portrayed by Jeff Birk, is a meticulous and by-the-book perfectionist. Despite their differences, the two are paired together as home teaching companions and tasked with the responsibility of uplifting and assisting the Callister family.

The Callisters, consisting of the father Jared, played by Kirby Heyborne, and his two daughters, Sarah and Rachel, are facing a variety of challenges in their lives. Jared, a single father, is struggling to balance his job and parental responsibilities, while his daughters are dealing with typical teenage issues such as school, relationships, and self-esteem.

As Greg and Nelson attempt to fulfill their home teaching duties, they find themselves in a series of hilarious and awkward situations, often due to Greg's clumsiness and Nelson's rigid adherence to protocol. Despite their best efforts, their visits to the Callister household seem to only exacerbate the family's problems rather than solve them.

However, as they continue to interact with the Callisters, Greg and Nelson begin to realize that their presence and friendship are making a positive impact on the family. Through their genuine concern and willingness to listen, they are able to provide much-needed support and encouragement to Jared and his daughters.

"The Home Teachers" is a heartwarming and humorous film that highlights the importance of community, friendship, and compassion. It emphasizes the idea that sometimes, the greatest help we can offer to others is simply being there for them and showing them that they are not alone in their struggles.

With its endearing characters, witty humor, and heartfelt message, "The Home Teachers" is a charming cinematic experience that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds, regardless of their religious affiliation. It reminds us that even in the midst of life's challenges, laughter and friendship can be powerful sources of strength and comfort.

    Conclusion
The RM is hilarious, and the singles ward is funny, but the apple fell far from the tree when it comes to the home teachers. I recently spoke with Jim Bennett who plays a small role in the movie, and even he acknowledges that it is a bad film.

Passage to Zarahemla (2007) Mormon Movie Reviews: Where LDS movie lovers belong!

Passage to Zarahemla (2007) Mormon Movie Reviews: Where LDS movie lovers belong!

Welcome brothers and sisters to Mormon Movie Reviews: Where LDS movie lovers belong! I am your humble host, Dives

    EP 77 - Passage to Zarahemla (2007)
    Running time: 1hr 35min
    Rating: pg 13
    Genre: Adventure/Drama

This review works best if you have seen this film before, though that is not required.

    Synopsis
Passage to Zarahemla" is a 2003 fantasy adventure film directed by Chris Heimerdinger. The story revolves around two teenagers, Chris and Clay, who find themselves unexpectedly transported back in time to ancient America, where they encounter the Nephites and Lamanites, two warring factions from the Book of Mormon.

The film begins with Chris, a troubled teenager struggling with the recent loss of his parents, and Clay, his rebellious younger brother. After an argument with their foster parents, the brothers run away from home and embark on a journey that leads them to an unexpected portal in the woods. Upon entering the portal, they find themselves in the ancient land of Zarahemla.

In Zarahemla, Chris and Clay are separated, each encountering different groups of people. Chris meets a kind-hearted Nephite girl named Zarahemla, while Clay is captured by the Lamanites, the enemies of the Nephites. As Chris and Zarahemla embark on a quest to rescue Clay and find a way back home, they must navigate the dangers of the ancient world and confront their own inner demons.

Throughout their journey, Chris and Zarahemla learn important lessons about courage, friendship, and faith. They discover the power of forgiveness and redemption as they strive to overcome the challenges they face. Along the way, they encounter various characters from the Book of Mormon, including the righteous prophet Alma and the villainous Amalickiah.

As the film reaches its climax, Chris and Zarahemla must confront Amalickiah and his army in a final showdown to save Clay and return home. With the help of their newfound allies, they are able to defeat Amalickiah and find their way back to the present day.

"Passage to Zarahemla" is a heartwarming tale that combines elements of fantasy, adventure, and spirituality. While the film's low budget is evident in its production values, the storyline and lame performances from the cast add to its shortcomings. The film laughably brings the world of the Book of Mormon to life, offering viewers a glimpse into the ancient civilization of the Nephites and Lamanites.

Overall, "Passage to Zarahemla" is an uplifting and but not at all entertaining film that is sure to resonate with audiences of all ages. While it may not have the polish of a big-budget Hollywood production, its heartfelt message and engaging storyline make it a worthwhile watch for anyone looking for a howlingly bad cinematic experience.

Truly terrible film. Absolutely nothing redeemable. They ought to put a warning on movies like this. When it comes to the passage of Zarahemla, I’d like to put the DVD into the time portal near Leeds Utah so that no one ever watches it again.

Mormon Podcast

Excellent podcasts. Thank You so much for
keeping us up to date on the Mormon news .
It’s very clear & easy to understand.

Awesome job !

WashABear ,

Exactly as advertised

Shortened briefs on what’s happening in Mormondom. Perfect for quickly checking in without feeling like I’m missing something.

The host does provide an honest view of the main Mormon church, so keep that in mind if you’re wanting something to strengthen your testimony. There’s so sugar coating here.

Holladay Ute ,

Horribly irresponsible

I can’t believe how irresponsible this podcast is in presenting its conclusions about current and past events and news. I am open to hearing legitimate arguments but this is full of so many holes it’s impossible to take it with any level of seriousnous.
