Expectations, Reality, and All the Complicated Stuff in Between

“How do you reconcile your own personal and moral beliefs with the realities of covering MMA?” Fernanda has heard this question a few times. Actually the best

As a podcaster myself, I am often critical of others work. Not in a bad way, just in a way that only someone who has been behind the mic can do, and I constantly listen to other for inspiration. Fernanda is the gold standard. No one else in MMA is having the types of conversations she has. No one else has the right amount of introspection mixed with philosophical insight about a sport involving two human beings locked in a cage attempting to bludgeon each other. I was a big fan of this show when it was on the air, and I recently did a deep dive into the archives and started with episode 11 and worked my way backwards. Fernanda says the things we are thinking but not enough people are saying, and attempts to bring certain social issues to light. I cannot recommend this podcast enough, and I think if enough people listen we can drag it back to the forefront where it belongs!

Gary J should be blocked from listening

What a great podcast this is. Frananda brings a viewpoint I can’t have as a white male and she is open and so funny. I really enjoy her take and typically anyone who doesn’t like this podcast is a just bleed bro and you shouldn’t pay attention to them. Also Gary J is the worst!! That guy is a loser. I will day I strongly disagree with her on the stance that chunky peanut butter is the best because everyone knows that smooth is the bomb.com but I overlook this huge flaw in her character because of all the other great opinions she has.

I’ve Got Some MMAnsplaining to Do

Are you looking for an MMA podcast, but tired of always getting the same leftover, reheated hot takes... from the same stereotypical, self-described “alpha males”... with the same antiquated, off-color “jokes” about anyone even slightly different from the brototype mold they crawled out of?

Then your search is over, my friend!

“Well, Actually...” is a deep breath of fresh meadow air, much-needed in a cultural landscape that could otherwise be described as a windowless room that smells like farts.

This podcast is good. It’s not good BECAUSE it’s something different; it’s something different AND IT IS GOOD. It’s not good BECAUSE the podscape is littered with decaying monuments to man’s hubris; it’s good because this woman does GREAT WORK.

It’s worth your time, and your interest. Fernanda Prates has a deep appreciation of nuance, in a world where everyone feels a need to reduce every situation to either “black” or “white”. She’s incredibly funny, smart as hell, and deeply personable. You’ll hear about important topics that everyone else just shrugs about and ignores, from a point of view that is sometimes unexpected. She likes to talk to super interesting people in the MMA world, whose voices have not had nearly enough airtime. She’s honest about insecurities and self-criticism, and I don’t trust anyone who claims they AREN’T plagued by doubts and fears about themselves. What are they, psychopaths?!
