What Does the Delay of the Entry-Level Driver Training Rule Mean for Trucking‪?‬ HDT Talks Trucking

    • Business

The entry-level driver training requirements were a long time coming – and now they’re going to be even longer, as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced a two-year delay just days before the new regulation was to go into effect Feb. 7. On this episode of HDT Talks Trucking, we have three people with a stake in the ELDT program, and they aren't happy that it's been pushed back. Some say the delay will allow CDL mills more time to crank out under-qualified drivers. Our guests are:

Don Lefeve, president and CEO of the Commercial Vehicle Training Association. The group has about 200 members located in 43 states that combined, graduate 50,000 truck drivers every year.
Tim Kordula, CDL instructor, and administrator at Karl's Transport Commercial Driver CDL Training School in Antigo, Wisconsin.
Laura McMillan, VP of training program development at Instructional Technologies Inc. She has served on the curriculum certification committee of the Professional Truck Driver Institute and served on the curriculum subcommittee as part of the ELDT proposed rule.
