Recently she was named to Nashville’s 2020 Power 100 list and is considered a rising star among Music City’s political scene. She is the co-founder and co-executive director of The Equity Alliance, a nonprofit that works to build independent political power among the Black electorate and end voter suppression in a state with one of the lowest voter participation rates in the nation.

With the election of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Charlane was named among 8 women fighting for voting rights in the South.

As a trusted voice on voting rights issues, her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, National Journal, Pew Charitable Trusts, Huffington Post, the Associated Press, Think Progress, on NPR Weekend Edition, MSNBC, CNN, internationally and throughout Tennessee. She has graced the coveted stage at the inaugural TEDxNashvilleWomen and has been a featured guest on various local television broadcasts, radio stations and national podcasts.

Her organization led a statewide coalition that registered 91,000 Black and brown Tennesseans to vote for the 2018 midterms, increased Black voter turnout by 413 percent, scored two legal voting rights victories against the Tennessee Secretary of State, and is responsible for electing the most diverse and progressive Metro Council in the city’s history.

She is a partner with OEM Consulting Group, LLC and founder of the Power of 10 PAC, a political action committee dedicated to funding and supporting candidates of color. As a consultant and public relations expert for candidates, nonprofits, and small businesses, she has helped to elect school board members, city council members, judges and state legislators.

Prior to taking the helm at The Equity Alliance, Charlane served as the community liaison and communications strategist for U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper. She led one of the most successful company voter registration initiatives in Congress called Project Register, a nonpartisan initiative that recruited over 215 Middle Tennessee companies to encourage their employees to register to vote online.

With over 15 years of professional experience in nonprofit management, civil service and communications, Charlane has garnered numerous accolades and awards, including the 2020 Luminary Award, 2019 Nashville Young Leaders Council Leader of the Year Award, and 2016 Nashville Black 40 Under 40. Nick Carmody #1026

    Nick Carmody #1026

Few people have as much clarity in terms of what is unfolding in this world as my friend Nick Carmody (find him on Twitter!). We take a deep dive on a variety of topics here as always, Nick illuminates and educates.

Nick Carmody, JD, MS-Psychology, has an undergraduate degree in Management of Criminal Justice from Concordia University Wisconsin, a law degree from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, and a Masters of Science degree from Tiffin University in Ohio. Nick has a private practice based in Denver, Colorado, and also works with low income children who have experienced trauma (many of whom are currently in foster care).

In 2010, Nick experienced two life-changing traumatic brain injuries (eight months apart). The changes in brain functioning, personality, and emotional processing (along with other intense personal experiences such as childhood sexual abuse, exposure to Cluster B Personality Disorders) created an obsession-like need to understand and confirm these experiences, and served as motivation to go back to school and work in the psychology field. Nick’s experiences with trauma have shaped a very unique life experience that created an unconventional path to a career helping people who have similar lived-experiences.

In 2015, Nick began writing Putting My Worst Foot Forward, but took a hiatus to focus on grad school, establishing a client base, and writing/warning about the dangers of Cluster B Personality Disorders in American Politics. Nick has recently began working on that project again. Nick is also considering publishing his writings about the psychology of American politics during the Trump era as a collection of essays titled Trickle Down Pathology.

    Joel Green #1024

    Joel Green #1024

An inspiring deep dive with former professional basketball player and current motivational speaker, Joel Green (also find him on Instagram!). We cover a lot of ground here from the NBA finals to the transformative power of meditation. Joel is definitely a light in the world who is making an impact on a lot of the lives he touches.

Joel Green is CEO of Pro Level Training, the National Director of Nike Sports Camps, a former professional basketball player, and a renowned motivational speaker. After retiring from his career in professional basketball, Joel Green founded Pro Level Training (PLT), which has become a 7-figure company. In addition to running PLT, Green is also the National Director for Nike Sports Camps as well as an accomplished speaker. He was honored to speak to thousands and deliver his own TED Talk.

Joel Green’s unique differentiator in business and as an individual, is his ability to see life objectively from multiple vantage points. Unfortunate circumstances as a youth helped to groom and refine Joel into adulthood. Growing up in an abandoned home and seeing both sides of life has really helped him to connect with people over time.

A thought leader in the motivational category, Joel Green has a B.A. in Psychology from Rider University, which has helped to fuel his ambition to inspire others. He has developed a reputation for personal excellence and motivational talks that contribute tangible advice for attaining desired goals. Many of the messages he has delivered on are conveyed in his first book, Filtering: The Way to Extract Strength from the Struggle, due to release this fall.

In addition, Green is a professional sports and fitness model and actor, and he has been featured in commercials, ads and on television. Most recently he was the face of Cheez-It crackers Celebrity Crunch Classic campaign, in which he was solely featured on millions of snack boxes.

Green is known for setting very ambitious goals for himself, most recently his own challenge of reading 30 books in 30 weeks. He has unflinchingly put in 18-20-hour workdays with great joy to make his dreams a physical manifestation. He attributes his work ethic to his unwavering faith and his passionate desire for excellence – both of which have allowed him to overcome many difficulties and life challenges.

    Heidi Campbell #1023

    Heidi Campbell #1023

The brilliant and inspiring Heidi Campbell returns to discuss her run for the United States Congress in the state of Tennessee. We also discuss a wide variety of issues from gun violence to the environmental challenges we face. Please listen and support my incredible friend in her quest to serve the greater good and the people of her state.

Tennessee state Senator Heidi Campbell is a Nashville native, a Mom, a former music industry executive and was the first female Mayor of the city of Oak Hill. As a child she attended St. Bernard, University School of Nashville and Hume-Fogg High School. She’s a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and earned her MBA at Vanderbilt University. As a songwriter and musician, she toured and recorded with her band, The Keep, for several years shortly after college.

Senator Campbell got involved in politics when she formed an opposition campaign when developers tried to change the residential-only status of her hometown by cutting into a wooded hill and building a large shopping mall. Her group was successful in preventing the project, and she decided to run for office. She was elected Vice Mayor and served on the planning commission. Then subsequently, she was elected Mayor and served two terms prior to winning a seat in the Tennessee Senate

Her areas of focus include fiscal accountability, business, the environment, education, and social health. In the state Senate her trademark is bringing compassionate and data-based leadership to the legislature. Senator Campbell is the Chair of the Davidson County Legislative Delegation and also serves on the Fiscal Review, Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR), Agriculture, Energy, and Environment, Government Operations committees of the Tennessee General Assembly, and the Environment Committee for the Southern Legislative Conference.

Her family lives in Nashville. Her father is a renowned cardiologist, and her mother is a former nurse, teacher actress and poet. Her sister is a doctor and a science teacher, and her brother is a urologist. She lives near Radnor Lake with her husband Andrew, her two children, and a few Goldendoodles.
