What Now? A Roundtable of Academic Workers, hosted by KCSB KCSB News

    • News

KCSB's Jackie Sedley spent the last couple of months covering the UC-wide Academic Worker strike that started on November 14 and went on until December 23. The strike officially ended when the two most contentious contracts were ratified – one for UAW2865 (the TA, tutor, and reader union) and one for SRU (the graduate student researcher union). For the duration of the strike, Sedley checked in weekly with Emily Fox, a PhD student at UC Santa Barbara. You can find those conversations in our Soundcloud feed. Sedley had heard a lot from Fox about what was going on at UCSB specifically, and what Fox had heard about the thoughts and feelings on other campuses, but Sedley hadn’t personally spoken to anyone from other schools. And Sedley wasn’t really sure how much communication was happening across all 9 undergraduate UC campuses. So, she decided to put together a panel. She sought out a balanced group of folks – ideally, two representatives from each campus (one who voted against ratification of the contracts, and one who voted for). However, after weeks of gathering sources, only one yes voter agreed to join the panel. Listen in, enjoy, and stay informed.
