    Garden State (with Zach Braff)

A bereft budget! Malfunctioning motorcycles! Two dogs looking for love in all the wrong places! This week, Chris & Lizzie speak with the writer/director/star of Garden State, Zach Braff, on how he made 2004’s little indie that could, Danny DeVito’s unlikely role in getting the film made, and just how, exactly, he scored the soundtrack of the decade.

    Ghostbusters

    Ghostbusters

A specter of a script! A lead prone to ghosting! A soul-wrenching schedule! This week, Chris & Lizzie cross the streams with 1984’s supernatural success story, Ghostbusters. Learn how a cabal of Canadian comedians created an American classic and how John Belushi haunted the film more literally than you may know.

    *CORRECTIONS:

*Chris incorrectly stated that Gremlins was the first film to receive a PG-13 rating. Though it helped prompt the invention of the PG-13 rating (created on July 1, 1984), Gremlins was given a PG rating. The first film to receive this new designation was Red Dawn, released in August of 1984.

*Lyndsey Buckingham caught some undeserved strays in this episode - he'd actually recently written Holiday Road for National Lampoon's Vacation and made quite a bit of sense as Reitman's choice to write the Ghostbusters theme.

    Chinatown (with Paul Scheer)

    Chinatown (with Paul Scheer)

This week, Faye Dunaway and Roman Polanski square off in one of the messiest on-set feuds of all time. Chinatown may be one of the greatest movies ever made, but between hair plucking, tv throwing, and alleged urine tossing, the production was an absolute disaster. Special guest Paul Scheer (Unspooled, How Did This Get Made) joins Lizzie & Chris to discuss the insane making of the 1974 Jack Nicholson classic, and the complicated legacy it leaves behind.

Check out Paul's memoir, Joyful Recollections of Trauma.

    The Sixth Sense

    The Sixth Sense

How did a director trapped in Harvey Weinstein’s movie jail, an action star who nuked his most recent film, and a children’s studio in crisis make one of the most influential horror films of all time? Join Chris & Lizzie as they find out why Toni Collette was less than thrilled to land her part, why Michael Cera didn’t score the lead role and how M. Night Shyamalan came to embrace the unexpected power of a PG-13 rating.

    The Crow

    The Crow

A film that set the mold for R-rated comic book adaptations, but is perhaps most famous for putting its enigmatic star Brandon Lee on the map… and taking him off it forever. Lizzie walks Chris through a production riddled with problems long before Lee’s untimely death, who else almost played Eric Draven and the film’s surprising connection to John Wick. They're also joined by an expert, armorer Larry Zanoff, to break down the on-set shooting of Brandon Lee.

Well researched, balanced & super entertaining!

Love the balanced perspective from these two entertaining, sharp podcasters! I’ve listened to others and they pale by comparison. Actually find it more original and novel to get an updated view from the younger generation (I’m in mid 50s). Have learned things that have challenged my views and always with a good spirit - Chris and Lizzie are great together, super funny! Thx for your work and providing such a fun listen!

Interesting, and so much fun!

I’m late to this game—I listened to the episode on Twister (one of those movies I’ll always watch if it happens to be on TV), but it wasn’t until a friend wrote about the two episodes on Lost that I got hooked. It’s really fun, really entertaining, and the hosts have amazing rapport, and mellifluous voices! This is now my go-to podcast for listening to while drawing!
