Even though we’re focused on starting summer and looking forward to all our fun plans for the season, it’s not just time to look ahead. Today I’m joined by my good friend (and good friend of the show) Jenny Rapson, and we are taking a look back.
Jenny is a longtime friend of The Couch, but she’s also now hosting her own podcast. Disaster Queen examines disasters that have taken place in the past and reflects on what these parts of our history mean and what we can learn from them. So in honor of her new show, Jenny joined me this week to go back 30 years to the pop culture of 1993.
I know. It’s incredibly rude of us to point out that 1993 was three decades ago. I promise you we’re just as upset about this as you are. Still, existential crises aside, it’s fun to remember the biggest movies, TV shows, music, and news of 1993. So much happened that year!
And, of course, because this is The Couch, where side notes and rabbit trails are always welcome, we also get into the joys of growing up without social media and generally unsupervised, reboots from Animaniacs to Murphy Brown, our eternal love of Whitney Houston, my incredibly picky taste when it comes to reading thrillers, and our shared experience of failing our first driving tests. It’s a whirlwind and a virtual trip in the time machine—and I know you’re going to love it. Let’s get started!
