Why are rail workers around the world striking‪?‬ The Dive | Business News

    • Business News

We’re feeling the impacts of inflation and cost of living pressures. In the UK, inflation is at 9.9%, in the US it is 8.3%, in Australia it is 6.1%. We can hear you saying what does 6% or 9% mean? Essentially 9% inflation means that prices are up 9% or, put another way, your money buys 9% less.
Because of this, we’re seeing strikes from unions across the world - airport workers in Germany, teachers in Norway, air traffic controllers in France. One industry that seems to be in the middle of strike action around the world - rail workers.
Earlier this year in the United Kingdom. Right now in Australia. And recently avoided in the United States. Today Alec and Sascha talk about what’s going on with rail strikes all over the world, and ask is there more at play than just the cost of living and inflation story?
