It can be so tempting to numb ourselves with noise, to scroll or binge Netflix or do anything at all to avoid the inner silence that allows our real feelings of loneliness, anxiety, or deep sorrow to rise to the surface. When we do this, though, we miss out not only our our very real experience of life, but also on the valuable things that these feelings have to tell us.
