Episode 144 - Travelling With Judith Keys - My Best Friend In France Podcast
Hello, and welcome to number 144. This week, I am joined by Judith Keys from the My Best Friend In France Podcast, which focuses on English-speaking people migrating to France and offers a community and advice for this type of move. Judith is originally from Northern Ireland and moved to France ten years ago. She lives in Providence, in the south of France, and yes, I had to ask her, is it the quintessential French life that we all imagine she is living in? Tune in to find out the answer! We delve into how important learning French is to settling in as a permanent resident, how vital the French take workers' rights and lunch breaks, areas of France to visit and some top tips for getting started in France. Judith loves France and is fully fluent in French, so she has a great grasp of life there from an outside view.
Judith's podcast below is for English speakers looking to move to France or are already there and need familiar voices to speak about their concerns, advice on how to get started and a community of like-minded people. Judith also has a subscription portion to the podcast where she co-hosts with a teacher, and they converse in French and offer games/tasks to help you improve at speaking French. Lastly, Judith has a cooking podcast, too, if you are a foodie! Let's get stuck into the episode!
Enjoy. Be inspired!

Get to know your podcast host, James Hammond aka Hammo.
Welcome to a bonus episode this week where I am asked some questions by the unofficial producer of this podcast designed for you to get to know your host better. This episode adapts the quickfire travel questions I ask on every guest episode. There will be questions such as, 'My top three favourite cuisines on my travels?', 'Am I a sunrise or sunset person?; 'What are my top three favourite countries I have travelled to?' and so on. I feel it is important for the listeners to get to know their host so here is a little snippet of who I am and what I think of travel.
Cheers, Hammo.

Episode 142 - Travelling With Joel David Bond - 7 Years In Iraqi Kurdistan, Stranded On A Greek Island During COVID + Flight Attendant Tales
Hello, and welcome to number 142. This week, I am joined by Joel David Bond, who has just returned from living in Kurdistan, Iraq, for the last seven years. The FBI/CIA evacuated Joel in October 2023, and we talk about that story but also Joel's love for the country, his life there, what he learned from being in that culture, and the shocking ending to his stint. In COVID, Joel was stranded on a Greek Island that housed hundreds of asylum seekers an hour's bus ride from his resort apartment; we talked about those two worlds coming together in the most unlikely scenario and some uncomfortable truths. Also nestled into the conversation is Joel's two-year stint at British Airways, and we hear some funny tales about a career that is not so seemingly dreamy.
A lot is packed into this one, and we barely touched the sides with Joel's other travels, which are hitting the 90-country mark. Right now, Joel is back in the USA figuring out his next moves, and there are many funny stories, reflections and laughs in this episode. Check out Joel's stuff below.
Enjoy. Be inspired!

Love
This is such a good listen. James is funny and relatable and fosters really great conversations with guests.
A reflective travel podcast
What I like the most about this podcast is that James is an excellent and intuitive interviewer. He really gets to the heart of a person’s journey, both physical and emotional, and is very sincere in wanting to connect with fellow travelers. He brings out the best in his interview subjects!
What a treat to tune into these adventures
James brings such character to the show with interesting stories and recommendations. The interviews are class and interesting to hear about not just travel journeys but what’s new and happening in the travel world. He’s great at keeping with the industry and making it fresh and is fun to listen with his accent. 10/10 recommend.
