So much fun!

I’m a huge movie buff, and largely a horror movie buff. This podcast gives me all that yummy film analysis and critique of tropes, individual films, franchises, and more that I love and crave. The hosts are super interesting and smart, with lots of great insights. And I love having a horror movie podcast hosted by women!

Good Gory Fun

I love these ladies! They are always insightful and entertaining. I love the “so you don’t have to” series, I genuinely don’t want to watch those movies but I am always curious. Dawn and Jen are fabulous!

Totally. Won. Over.

I must admit that I didn't think I was going to fall for this podcast at first listen, for I usually don't get into podcasts that break down a whole movie in so much detail. But Jen Brown and Dawn Humphrey really won me over with their unabashed LOVE for horror movies, and for all the right reasons. They take delight in the inventiveness of splatter scenes, appreciate the intricacies of framing and color, and they totally dig the way horror presents a darker vision that resonates with our real-world horrors, whether it's for wish-fulfillment, creative escape or just the catharsis of seeing that someone else understands how screwed up the human race can be at times. They truly, utterly enjoy the hell out of horrow, and that enthusiasm is utterly infectious when you listen to them.
One of my biggest listening highlights was the episode where they talk to Dana DeLorenzo from Ash vs. Evil Dead...and a sheer lovefest ensues. The whole exchange was a speeding train of laughs and great insights into what makes Ash Williams such an endearing (and frustrating) character.
But you don't need a guest appearance to enjoy Women in Caskets. Brown and Humphrey have such a close bond (complete with sentence completion) that listening to them is like happening onto the right bar stool to eavesdrop in on some of the most fascinating conversations you will ever hear. For their most recent series of episodes, where they go through every installment of the Evil Dead movie franchise, they absolutely NAIL the problems of Army of Darkness, the weakest of the whole lot. Plus, the whole story of the original Evil Dead 'failing upwards' made my (highly!) elongated drive home through a snowstorm tolerable. I love hearing feminist perspectives on horror movies, and Women in Caskets rock their double-x chromosomes something fierce!
