Tiffany Curry: Staying in the Game

Tiffany Curry: Staying in the Game

In this week’s episode of Women Influencers, I spoke with Tiffany Curry, the first woman to own a Berkshire Hathaway Franchise in Houston, which is also the first 100% Black owned Berkshire Hathaway in the world. She was named Woman of the Year at the 2017 Global Power Tour.
We discussed how she grew up in Houston with her two siblings and their two cousins, under the guidance of her hardworking parents. She shared how her Grandfather was a self-made Entrepreneur who made sure that, although he was there to help if needed, his family worked to earn their own way. This taught Tiffany the value of hard work from a young age, and led her to attend Texas Southern University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), where her mother worked for 30 years.
While Tiffany was in her undergraduate studies, she met another student who was pursuing her Real Estate License and Tiffany decided she wanted to do that, too. She planned to practice Real Estate for 6 months before going to Law School, but that 6 months turned into a 17 year (so far!) fruitful career.  Today, she is the Broker Owner of Berkshire Hathaway Houston Tiffany Curry & Co.
Tiffany then shared a lovely quote from Babe Ruth, and asked me a riveting question about working in male dominated spaces.

    Phoebe Van Tran: Fostering Relationships

    Phoebe Van Tran: Fostering Relationships

In this week’s episode of Women Influencers, I spoke with Phoebe Van Tran, co-founder and CEO of Infinity Capital Lending. She is also the coauthor of the #1 Amazon best selling book, “Powerful Female Immigrants.”
We discussed her immigration to America at the age of 18, her passion for fostering relationships, and the many hats she wears in a variety of organizations helping investors in Asia deploy capital and bridge the gap between generations. Phoebe also told me how she believes global cross collaboration has the most potential in the future for economic growth, and how she is at the forefront of enabling that collaboration.

Phoebe then shared a piece of advice, and asked me to share one, as well.

    Niki Perez: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome

    Niki Perez: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome

In this week’s episode of Women Influencers, I spoke with Niki Perez, founder and CEO of Authentic CRE. Growing up, Niki was often targeted, abused, abandoned, and bullied. This chaos framed her reality and robbed her sense of identity. After having her son, she found a new purpose and surrounded herself with female mentors who taught her that being herself was her super power all along.
In 2004, Niki started as a Receptionist at a private CRE firm and ended up falling in love with the industry despite having also gone back to school to study English Literature. Her career has built to the point that she now owns and operates her own company. She credits her willingness to step into the unknown to an idea one of her mentors shared with her, “the cure to fear is identity.”
We talked about balancing our creative and analytical sides, her advice for anyone listening, and what my hopes are for women in business over the next 20 years.

Advocacy: How Robin Webb Has Helped Women Break the Glass Ceiling

Advocacy: How Robin Webb Has Helped Women Break the Glass Ceiling

This week, for the first time, I invited a man to join the Women Influencers in Business & CRE Podcast. It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with one of my Mentors, Robin Webb, who has been a staunch advocate for Women in Commercial Real Estate.
We discussed how he grew up poor between Georgia and Florida, left home at just 14 years old, and worked his way through High School and College. After finding an opportunity to work in the sales side of the Hotel business, Robin remained in the Hospitality industry for 13 years running 28 hotels across the Southeastern US. At 32, he decided to get out of the Hotel business and later started his own business to sell hotels despite having no background in Commercial Real Estate. 3 years after starting his business, CCIM came into his world and taught him Real Estate.
Robin became Global President of the CCIM Institute in 2017, appointing the majority of his leadership as women.

    Chere Rice-Roane: “Never Stop”

    Chere Rice-Roane: “Never Stop”

In this week’s episode, Chere recounts her illustrious career, starting as a Central Florida “ragamuffin” - her words, not mine! - to now having founded and run Nicole & Hudson Realty Corp for over 50 years. She shared how she was denied the opportunity to take engineering classes in college on account of being a woman and chose to pursue Architecture instead. After working with a Real Estate investment trust, she decided to get her Real Estate license in 1971.
We discussed her views on leadership, the importance of being active in your community, and dealing with the challenges of being a single mom during the Vietnam war. We also talked about transitioning from Residential to Commercial Real Estate.
