Rehumanizing the Executive Recruiter Experience with Amy Comly, Founder of Weller & Company

Rehumanizing the Executive Recruiter Experience with Amy Comly, Founder of Weller & Company

Today I am speaking with Amy Comly, Founder of Weller & Company, a company that's re-humanizing the executive search experience. Here, Amy describes how she founded her executive search firm that rebels against common misconceptions about "headhunters." She explains how she "matchmakes" rather than "transacts" to identify talent for businesses. Doing this, she explains, changes the dynamic of working with an Executive Recruiter. It makes the experience more "human" for employers and candidates.

We also discuss the essential components of networking with recruiters – why you need one and how to find one (Hint: LinkedIn is a good source). She describes the nuances of how she utilizes her networking skills to help employers and potential employees find the right fit that aligns with expectations on both sides.

Later in the show, Amy and I dive into the wealth of networking, especially for recent graduates, and how beneficial it can be to continue to improve your networking skills throughout your career.

The episode ends with advice for nailing your next interview. Make sure to listen to these great tips!

Find the Right Balance in Life and Business

Find the Right Balance in Life and Business

    Hello Listeners!

I'm speaking Carin Langen, owner of Right Balance Studios in Lewes and Bethany Beach Delaware today. Carin took her passion for Pilates and turned into a thriving business that offers a lot more than a place to exercise. Have a listen Carin explains how therapeutic movement improves the lives of her clients. I had no idea how much Pilates, or movement, could do for so much to improve activities of daily living. Seriously, think about how much effort it is as we age to carry a case of water into the house. Carin shares how movement strengthens and heals your body from the inside out (including a story of a woman suffering from incontinence was able to regain her life).

What I love about this interview is hearing Carin's start-up and expansion story. In addition to Pilates, her background includes an extensive corporate background in sales and marketing. She explains how she married her corporate experience with Pilates to bring all the pieces of the puzzle to form Right Balance Studios. Our discussion on how she branded her business is worth a listen.

Carin also gives new business owners some terrific advice on how to move a business forward (while raising three small children). She has a great way of showing how much you can accomplish when you start to say, "YES." Little things like offers to do her grocery shopping for her or holding her baby helped her succeed. So, say, "Yes!" more ladies!

Please tune in as we discuss the merits of letting go of control, outsourcing, and not doubting your decisions. There was a valuable lesson for me there!

You can find Right Balance Studios' website here: www.rightbalancepilates.com as well as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Go Beyond Your Limits and Unleash the Leader in You!

Go Beyond Your Limits and Unleash the Leader in You!

Hello Listeners! I'm very excited to speak with Diane Hanson. She is one tenacious lady who never gave up despite a myriad of obstacles set in her way. She forged a path into the business world where few opportunities existed. Her fortitude enabled her to become the first women hired by a prominent pharmaceutical company and she remained the only women salesperson for some time! Her success there, I'm sure, helped other women break into different careers in big pharma. The world was moving forward with women in business, yet the world wasn't moving fast enough for Diane. Her boss told her plainly that she could go no further. But that didn't stop Diane. She became an entrepreneur, politician, and author.

Please have a listen as Diane walks us through her unlikely career path, business ownership, and battling good 'ole boy politics. Diane and I also discuss her new book entitled: "Management Unleashed: Leadership Lessons from my Dog."

Stay tuned! Diane shares leadership and networking advice for new business owners.

You can find more information about her book on Facebook and her website, http://managementunleashed.com/.

How a Business Advisor Helps You Succeed Even Before You Start!

How a Business Advisor Helps You Succeed Even Before You Start!

    Hello Listeners!

This episode highlights an overlooked yet vital resource --BUSINESS ADVISOR-- available in your state (most likely for free). Seriously folks, do not pass GO, do not Collect $200 without one. It doesn't matter if you already have tons of business experience or just starting out. Heck, if you have that little wiggly thought about starting your own business, the best way to kick around ideas is with an experienced Business Advisor. And it's never too late to find one.

This is why I am excited to do this podcast interview with Cindy Small, Business Advisor, for the University of Delaware's Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Yes, you may have guessed it, Cindy is my Business Advisor. We were connected after I filled out a few forms on www.delawareSBDC.org website. Let me tell you she has been a big help on many levels.

During our interview, Cindy and I discuss how she helps propel businesses forward and shares some recent success stories with women business owners. You wouldn’t believe the success they have had so far. Cindy tells us how they did it and what made a difference (HINT: They had a solid business plan). Cindy also explains why she might discourage potential business owners from even starting (HINT: Their plan or lack of a plan wasn't grounded in the realities they would face once launched). Look, no one wants their business bubble to burst, but it could save well-intentioned people thousands of dollars and tons of time wasted by having an advisor ask you tough questions and make you do the necessary work beforehand.

Please have a listen and find out how you can connect with an advisor; what types of services they perform for you; and what that could mean for your business.

You can find more information about Delaware's Small Business Development Center here. Or, connect with them on Facebook @DelawareSBDC. Cindy is also part of the Sussex Economic Development Action Committee. You can find them on Facebook @SEDAC.

To find local resources in your state, you can start here and type in your zip code.

Keep Showing Up! How to Blend Your Passions into Your Business with Jody Dengler, Sun Otter Tours

Keep Showing Up! How to Blend Your Passions into Your Business with Jody Dengler, Sun Otter Tours

Today I am speaking with Jody Dengler, owner, and operator of Sun Otter Tours. Jody turned her passion for science, history, and beautiful coastal Delaware into a one-of-a-kind touring company.  Her tour company is just two years old, and Jody walks us through how she went from a certified tour-guide to starting her own emerging enterprise.

What I love about this interview is Jody's openness about the up and down ride she had starting this tour company up. She had days of self-doubt and utter madness, just like most of us who 'start-up.' But if you listen to Jody, you'll find that this lady, despite some early setbacks and misgivings, is absolutely tenacious. She knocked on doors, found collaborations in the most unlikely places (her competition!), and just kept showing up.

Jody and I also talk about the importance of creating a support team and overcoming the reluctance to ask for help. She also gives a peek into the tours she has designed for tourists and locals that go off the beaten path. An unabashed science-geek and history nerd, she creates tours that 'indulges a persons' natural curiosity,' from goat yoga to lavender fields to fishing like Native Americans and the science behind our beaches.

Stay tuned! Jody has some excellent advice for new business owners.

You can find more information about Sun Otter Tours at https://www.sunotter.com/

    As always, thanks for listening!

Find Your Best-Self, Balance, & Enjoyment in Your Business with Elizabeth A. Sanchez, Holistic Life Coach

Find Your Best-Self, Balance, & Enjoyment in Your Business with Elizabeth A. Sanchez, Holistic Life Coach

Hey there! This is your host, Joanne French. Today I am speaking with Elizabeth Sanchez, holistic life coach, energy worker, and business consultant. Elizabeth explains how she went from a six-figure income as a network marketer to finding her passion and purpose through health and wellness. She shares with us the day she had a 'bathroom floor moment,' that put her on the direct path to becoming a holistic life coach where she helps women empower themselves. HINT: "If you don't like your life, change your attitude."

Elizabeth and I also talk about "how we attract what we feel," as well as what it means to "live in abundance." She describes how 'everything is energy,’ and as humans, our thoughts are energy. Sure, that seems like a simple thing, but it's more complex than you think (for me, anyway). Here is where I had a 'moment' of my own. I didn't realize it when speaking with Elizabeth live. It hit me like an ice cream truck days later. HINT: Living in scarcity attracts scarcity. I have some work to do and taking steps to get back on track.

The episode ends with Elizabeth and I discussing how you can use your energy or higher vibrations to meet the right people at networking events and other business tips. Don't miss the end!
