Madalena Caramuru: The First Literate Woman in Brazil

Madalena Caramuru: The First Literate Woman in Brazil

Madalena is widely considered as the first literate woman in Brazil. With a new world opening up to her, she used her own hand to pen a letter to Father Manuel, the head of the Jesuits at the time, calling for the end of the mistreatment of the Indigenous people, and for women to have the same education that was available to men. Because there isn't much information about her life other than a few notable events, we delve into the Jesuits' presence in Brazil, and how they affected the culture and country.

Herstorians!

Heather & Joe have great chemistry! I love their banter!

Host with the Most Ironic Past

I've witnessed countless instances of Joe (a co-host) conspiring to undermine womens' autonomy over their mind. He is a known manipulator of women and has gone out of his way to deceive and control what I would call "victims." I don't know if this behavior results from a disorder of narcissist or sociopathic proportions but the damage he has caused to several females should be enough to disuade you from buying into this "feminist" narrative. I cannot speak to the other co-host of this series but if she is aware of his past and condones his behvior, she has no right benefiting from the stories of these women either.

While I am incredibly supportive of the mission behind this podcast, I will never support this one because of Joe.

Joe is a known abuser, cheater, liar, and misogonist. That is not the kind of person that should be profiting in any way off of this podcast. He is a disgrace as a potential face of the feminist movement and needs to be removed. The idea of this podcast is good, sadly the host chose the wrong person to help her with this. Joe doesn’t deserve to be heard or have input. Apple needs to ban this podcast.
