The Secret to Happiness & Inner Peace: Anattā

What if happiness and inner peace aren't things you have to chase—but something you uncover when you stop holding so tightly to who you think you're supposed to be? We live in a world that constantly tells us to achieve more, prove ourselves, defend our positions and define who we are. Yet all that striving can leave us anxious, disconnected and exhausted. There is another way. Award-winning author and alpinist Michael Schauch joins Women Road Warriors hosts Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro to explore Anattā, the ancient Buddhist concept of “non-self” at the heart of his book Anattā: Heart of Wisdom. It sounds mysterious, but its message is surprisingly practical: loosening our grip on the fears, wounds, identities and stories we carry can open the door to greater happiness, harmony, connection and inner peace. It happens when we loosen our attachment to the independent self and recognize how deeply interconnected we are with the world around us. Anattā isn't about losing yourself, surrendering your power or allowing other people to walk over you. It's about discovering the deeper person underneath the roles, expectations and emotional reactions that can quietly control your life. Michael explains why our attachment to an independent sense of self can intensify fear, dissatisfaction and an “us versus them” mentality. He also explores the Buddhist Four Immeasurables—loving kindness, compassion, joyful empathy and equanimity—and how they can help us build stronger connections and greater harmony. You'll also discover why inner peace does not mean keeping the peace at your own expense. Michael shares practical ways to begin: slow down, reconnect with nature, notice the stories running beneath your thoughts and emotions, and create enough stillness to hear what is happening inside you. One of his most powerful insights turns our usual pursuit of happiness upside down: happiness and inner peace aren't destinations. They emerge as we become more aligned with our true nature. Michael's path to this wisdom has taken him far beyond the meditation cushion. His extraordinary experiences include remote Himalayan expeditions, Alaskan ice walls, sacred places in Japan and the discovery of a Himalayan cave containing the ancient remains of 23 people. His connection with nature and a remarkable story passed down from his mother after her childhood in postwar Hong Kong helped shape his understanding of our connection to one another and the world around us. Discover Anattā and a different path toward happiness, inner peace, self-discovery, mindfulness, emotional balance and human connection with Michael Schauch on Women Road Warriors. In This Episode, Discover:What Anattā really means and why “non-self” is not about losing your identity, voice, power or boundariesWhy happiness and inner peace aren't destinations but can emerge when we become more aligned with our true natureHow the fears, wounds, identities and stories we hold onto can create suffering, dissatisfaction and disconnectionWhy recognizing our interconnection with other people and the world around us can create greater harmony and compassionHow to step out of an “us versus them” mindset and respond to conflict with greater clarity instead of reacting from fearThe Four Immeasurables—loving kindness, compassion, joyful empathy and equanimity—and how they strengthen human connectionWhy inner peace does not require women to surrender their voices or sacrifice healthy boundariesHow nature can help quiet the mind, reveal hidden thought patterns and reconnect us with ourselvesMichael's extraordinary discovery of 23 ancient human remains in a Himalayan cave and what it taught him about impermanence and the human experienceHow to recognize thoughts and emotions without allowing them to control you—like stepping out of a raging river and observing it from the bankPractical ways to create more stillness, mindfulness, emotional balance and peace in everyday life What might change if you stopped searching outside yourself for the happiness, wisdom and peace you already have the capacity to experience? Sacajawea: America’s First Native American Superhero

America’s first Native American superhero isn’t another comic-book creation. She is Sacajawea, and she is taking flight as Bird Woman. The 12-time award-winning animated drama Bird Woman: Sacajawea reimagines her as a navigator, warrior, and shapeshifter. She is part woman and part eagle. Caught between two worlds, Bird Woman battles danger, confronts painful choices, and discovers her strength, her powers, and her destiny. Her supernatural powers may be imagined. Her courage was not. Long before Wonder Woman took flight, the real Sacajawea crossed thousands of miles of dangerous and unfamiliar territory while carrying her infant son and helping the Lewis and Clark Expedition reach the Pacific. The expedition would have failed without her. She was only 16, with knowledge well beyond her years. Sacajawea was far more than the guide many history books briefly mention. She was a Lemhi Shoshone woman, interpreter, navigator, cultural bridge, diplomat, mother, and survivor. Her knowledge helped the expedition find food, obtain horses, communicate with Native nations, and navigate a landscape its members did not understand. Her presence with a baby also signaled that the group was traveling in peace rather than as a war party. Yet most Americans know Sacajawea’s name without knowing the remarkable woman behind it. In this episode of Women Road Warriors, Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro welcome award-winning filmmaker Lynn Rogoff to explore both sides of this extraordinary story: the real Sacagawea whose contributions were reduced to a historical footnote and the groundbreaking animated superhero series introducing her courage to a new generation. Lynn reveals Sacajawea’s childhood abduction, her dramatic reunion with her Shoshone brother, the dangers she survived, and the conflicting accounts of what happened to her after the expedition. You’ll also discover how Sacajawea became a symbol of women’s leadership and independence during the suffrage movement and why so much of her remarkable story was left out of our history books. In this episode, discover: Why Lynn believes the Lewis and Clark Expedition could not have succeeded without SacajaweaHow Sacajawea’s knowledge, diplomacy, and fearless actions repeatedly protected the expeditionThe dramatic reunion with her Shoshone brother and the painful choice she facedThe competing accounts of whether she died young or returned home and lived into old ageHow Bird Woman: Sacajawea transforms an overlooked historical figure into a powerful Indigenous heroineHow AI-enhanced animation and interactive character technology are bringing history to a new generationWhy animated stories centered on women still struggle to receive funding About Lynn RogoffLynn Rogoff is a Writers Guild of America-nominated writer, award-winning filmmaker, educator, and the creator of Bird Woman: Sacajawea. She is the filmmaker behind No Maps on My Taps, which received two Emmy Awards, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the New York Institute of Technology. Through Amerikids Productions, she creates innovative stories and educational experiences that bring overlooked people and moments in American history to life. Stop Your Brain from Stopping Your Success

Your brain may be protecting you from the very success you want. What if hesitation isn’t a lack of ambition? What if overthinking, perfectionism, fear of visibility, and self-sabotage are old survival patterns running automatically? And what if changing the behavior isn’t enough because behavior is only the final step in the pattern? Master Coach and “Millionaire Activator” Suzanne Longstreet says the subconscious mind is wired to keep us safe, not necessarily to help us grow. When an opportunity involving greater success, money, leadership, or visibility activates an old belief, the brain may interpret growth as a threat and trigger fear before we consciously understand what is happening. Suzanne Longstreet is the creator of Quantum YOU Activation and the bestselling author of The Millionaire Brain and co-author of The Millionaire Codes. She helps high-achieving women identify and eliminate the subconscious resistance disrupting their decisions, execution, visibility, and income. Suzanne explains the sequence: an external trigger activates an internal message, the message creates an emotional response, and the emotion drives behavior. To create lasting change, she says we must identify the trigger, uncover the hidden belief, and rewire the pattern beneath the reaction. Suzanne traces one of her own limiting beliefs about money to age four or five. After proudly announcing that the 100 pennies in her hand made $100, her mother laughed and corrected her. Although her mother meant no harm, Suzanne internalized a very different message: I don’t understand money. That childhood moment quietly followed her into adulthood and business. After years of struggling to build her coaching practice, Suzanne discovered neuro-linguistic programming, hypnosis, and advanced cognitive techniques. She says applying those tools helped her move from earning approximately $15,000 a year to $60,000 within six months. In this thought-provoking episode, discover: Why the subconscious mind can treat success as a threatHow hidden beliefs formed in childhood can influence adult decisionsWhy triggers—not behaviors—may be the real place to beginHow repeated thoughts can reinforce fear and negative emotional patternsWhat an amygdala hijack looks like in professional and personal lifeHow fight, flight, freeze, and fawn responses affect confidenceWhy Tall Poppy Syndrome keeps accomplished women from speaking upHow imposter syndrome and fear of visibility can restrict incomeHow self-awareness can help interrupt an automatic responseWhy the language you use about yourself matters to your subconscious mind Learn more or schedule a clarity session with Suzanne at SuccessAndClarity.com. Do You Sabotage What You Desperately Want?

Somatic healing and nervous-system regulation can reveal why anxiety, scarcity thinking, emotional patterns, and self-sabotage keep us from the love, relationships, money, career success, and opportunities we want. Somatic embodiment coach Christina Lane joins Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro of Women Road Warriors to explain why we sometimes unconsciously repel what we desperately desire and how body awareness can make us more available to receive it. The issue may not be availability. It may be access. When part of us doesn’t feel safe, ready, or emotionally available to receive what we desire, we can fall into fight-or-flight, anxious attachment, emotional reactivity, or a desperate “grabbing” energy that pushes people and opportunities away. Christina reveals how somatic coaching, emotional regulation, and mind-body awareness can help us identify these subconscious patterns before they take control. Traditional self-help and talk-based insight can help us understand our behavior, but understanding a pattern doesn’t always stop us from repeating it. Christina explains how somatic coaching brings the body, emotions, subconscious, and nervous system into the process so meaningful change becomes accessible during an argument, a difficult meeting, a date, or a two-in-the-morning anxiety spiral. In this episode, discover: Why anxiety is information—and what it may be trying to protect you fromHow to experience an emotion without feeding it with thoughts and storiesChristina’s 90-second approach to riding an emotional waveHow nervous-system regulation can interrupt fight-or-flight reactionsWhy desperately chasing love, money, or success may push it farther awayHow scarcity thinking creates a cycle that appears to confirm your fearsWhy tone, energy, and body language affect relationships and leadershipHow somatic movement, grounding, dance, and body awareness can shift your emotional stateWhat Christina means by determining what is—and isn’t—“on your menu”How phones, social media, and constant stimulation eliminate the reflective space we needWhy empathy and energetic awareness can transform conflictHow to stop absorbing another person’s negativity and command your own emotional space Christina’s central message is powerful: “The issue is not availability. It’s access. It’s not that what you want isn’t there. It’s that something in you is not available to receive it.” About Christina LaneChristina Lane is a somatic embodiment coach who works virtually with men and women seeking growth in their relationships, careers, emotional awareness, and personal lives. She is certified in somatic therapy support modalities and writes extensively about embodiment, nervous-system regulation, relationships, and personal transformation on Medium, Substack, and other platforms. Kindness Is a Survival Skill with Nicole Phillips

Kindness is often treated like a weakness. But what if it is actually a survival skill that can help us manage stress, interrupt negative thoughts, and reclaim our power? Nicole Phillips, founder of Kindness Is Contagious and host of The Kindness Podcast, which Oprah Magazine recognized as one of the top happiness podcasts, joins Women Road Warriors hosts Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro to reveal how intentional kindness transformed her habits, marriage, family, and outlook on life. One simple act of generosity sparked a powerful personal transformation—and a kindness movement. Within a year of intentionally looking for and practicing kindness, Nicole had quit drinking and smoking, lost 30 pounds, renewed her relationship with her husband, and changed the atmosphere in her home. Nicole explains why negativity may seem more prevalent when “the worse is simply louder.” She also reveals how confirmation bias, judgment and social media algorithms can reinforce negative thinking—and how we can train ourselves to see more of the goodness that is still all around us. In this empowering conversation, discover: • How kindness can reshape automatic thoughts and negative beliefs • Nicole’s “worry, hurry and jury” pattern—and how to interrupt it • Why the first thought may be automatic, but the next thought is where your power lives • A simple 24-hour exercise for developing a kindness mindset • How to practice self-kindness and stop destructive inner criticism • Why the Platinum Rule can be more compassionate than the Golden Rule • How asking “What else could be true?” can prevent fear from becoming panic • The difference between healthy perspective and toxic positivity • How to feel the pain of life without feeding the panic • Why paying attention may be more powerful than simply paying kindness forward Listen now and discover why kindness is not passive or powerless. Exhausted? Stop Fighting Your Body & Start Listening

You’re eating clean, exercising, meeting your responsibilities, and pushing through every demanding day, but you’re still exhausted. Here’s something every overwhelmed woman needs to hear: you may not need more discipline. You may need to stop fighting your body and start listening to what it is trying to tell you. In this eye-opening episode of Women Road Warriors, Shelley M. Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro talk with Katie Hardie, a Board-Certified Holistic Nutritionist, FDN Practitioner, and founder of My PEAK. Katie explains how constantly pushing through stress without adequate recovery can affect your energy, sleep, blood sugar, hormones, digestion, metabolism, mood, and overall performance. Even symptoms we have been taught to accept—nighttime waking, afternoon crashes, brain fog, stubborn midsection weight, bloating, and feeling unlike ourselves—may be signals that the body needs something different. Katie understands burnout personally. Years of working harder, overtraining, under-fueling, and ignoring her body’s warning signs eventually took a physical toll. Functional testing helped her connect the dots between her stress hormones, recovery, and a serious injury—and taught her why pushing through symptoms is not always a sign of strength. In this episode, discover: Why symptoms can be common without being normalWhat nighttime waking and afternoon energy crashes may be telling youHow emails, social media, caregiving, shift work, and constant demands can keep your body in fight-or-flight modeWhy chronic stress can disrupt cortisol, DHEA, sex hormones, digestion, thyroid function, blood sugar, and metabolismHow short “micro-recoveries” can help your nervous system reset—even during a demanding workdayWhy gut health and regular bowel movements provide important clues about your healthHow real food can support more sustainable energy than sugar, caffeine, and heavily processed convenience foodsWhy intermittent fasting may help one person but create additional stress for anotherThe difference between merely avoiding a disease diagnosis and identifying patterns before they become bigger problemsHow functional testing, personalized nutrition, movement, sleep, and nervous-system support can help you build a roadmap for better health Women are frequently taught to push harder, eat less, ignore exhaustion, and treat rest as something that must be earned. But there comes a point when more pressure produces less performance. If you have ever been told that you are “fine” while knowing you don’t feel like yourself, this conversation could change how you think about your symptoms. Your body may not need more punishment or discipline. It may need you to start listening. The Women Who Shaped the Equality State

Wyoming is famous as the Cowboy State, but women have shaped its laws, land, culture, and communities from the beginning. In 1869, Wyoming Territory became the first U.S. territory to grant women the right to vote, a historic breakthrough that helped earn it another proud name: the Equality State. Fifth-generation Wyomingite, photographer, and storyteller Lindsay Linton Buk joins Women Road Warriors hosts Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro to reveal the remarkable women behind Wyoming’s history and the modern American West. Lindsay’s new book, Women Shaping the West: Stories from Wyoming, grew out of her acclaimed podcast and museum exhibition. After training in New York City and returning home, Lindsay traveled more than 15,000 miles across Wyoming, shot 600 rolls of film, and recorded over 3,000 minutes of interviews. Her visually stunning collection profiles more than 25 extraordinary women from an Eastern Shoshone language preservationist and a backcountry pilot to an abstract painter and a Wyoming Supreme Court justice. Their lives challenge the enduring myth that rugged men built the West alone. In this episode, discover: How Wyoming women fought for, won, and protected early voting rightsHow Haudenosaunee women influenced early leaders of the American women’s rights movementWhy living and working close to the land demands extraordinary resilienceHow women’s interdependence creates a circular web of strength that uplifts entire communitiesWhat Wyoming’s ranchers, artists, pilots, judges, language keepers, and other leaders reveal about identity, purpose, and leadership Meet the women who helped build Wyoming and the bold women who are still shaping the American West today.
