Not much depth

Pros:
She's a real person, so we're actually hearing what a housewife did and thought during the war. We do hear about rations, the Home Guard, etc... We hear about her sons, one in the RAF and one a prisoner of war.

Cons:
She hates men (on general principle) and does a lot of whining about how women would never have gone to war but are doing all the suffering at home. Also, I can't tell if she's supposed to be English or American. She mentions having lived in America and wanting to go back, and the reader (who needs to check her pronunciation on a LOT of words) has an American accent, but she seems to be English. Confusing.

All in all, a good portrait of what a British housewife though about and had to deal with. Unfortunately, this particular British housewife just didn't have that much to say.

Frustrating...but hopeful

This is a great podcast if you want to know what a woman shopped for in 1940 London. Terrible if you want to know her firsthand experience of the war or the Blitz. I'm hopeful the narrator will eventually get to that point, but so far any mention of the war is purely in the background of the diary.
