Speaking in public about your books is not just for public speakers or professionals. Once your book is published, there may be many opportunities that arise when you’re asked to discuss them. Perhaps you’re at a book signing or a writer’s conference. Or maybe even just in line at the grocery story. Someone somewhere will say, “Tell me about your book!” And that will be your opportunity to sell, sell, sell! So, you can’t clam up. You can’t let your nerves get in the way. This week, we’re talking about how you can set your nerves aside and speak publicly about your awesome books.

    In this episode, you will:

Learn about opportunities you may be asked to speak about your books Learn different ways to prepare for speeches, signings, and readings Learn how to cope with nerves before speaking about your books Lean how to talk to potential readers and turn them into customers

This week, I’ve brought on a special guest host, Shelley Hitz, to talk about ways to cope with Writers’ Block, push through it, and get back to writing.

    Episode 24
How and When to Use Prologues & Epilogues

There’s an age-old debate on whether or not authors should use prologues (and epilogues). So many authors believe that agents are anti-prologue/epilogue, but that’s not necessarily true, as I found when I sat down with Literary Agent Alice Speilburg to discuss this very topic. Prologues can serve an important role in your manuscript, but they must be done properly and effectively. It’s not so much about IF you should write a prologue but HOW you should write it.

    In this episode, you will:

Learn what is a prologue and an epilogue Learn what agents really think about prologues (and epilogues) Learn how to properly write and use prologues Lean when not to use prologues and/or epilogues

How to Properly Write Fiction Scenes

If you think about it, a novel has several basic components: book, chapters, scenes, pages, paragraphs, sentences, and words. One could argue that the most crucial of these components are the scenes. When properly written and properly strung together, the scenes are what turns a story idea into a full-on novel. But most people take this for granted and don’t consider that there’s actually a right way and a wrong way to write and structure fiction scenes. This week, I brought on author CS Lakin to discuss exactly how we should write a proper scene in a novel.

    In this episode, you will:

Learn exactly what constitutes a scene Learn the crucial elements of a proper scene Learn what makes a great, compelling scene Lean how to handle different POVs and scenes
