Ep 415-416: Weapon X, Lies and Videotape / Lotus and the Steel

If you thought that '97 didn't feature enough of our beloved Logan, then do we have a treat for you. Two back-to-back Wolvy episodes (recorded before X-Men '97 started) with brand new lovers and old flames. And a professor far more diabolical than Xavier. Most importantly, we'll at long last get to the bottom of the "Sabretruth" debate. And in an X-Boyz first, we're calling out an error in the order of episodes. If you're watching along, the correct chronological order is Weapon X before Lotus & Steel. Trust us. We're professionals. So pack your bags. We're going to Japan.

Oh, you thought the show was over? Well, technically it is. For now. But the X-party rages on in our hearts and telepathic minds. So the Boyz (and a very special LADY guest) got together one more time to discuss the entirety of a season that, against-all-odds, exceeded our expectations. From the soapy romances to the most action-packed fights, we're covering it all. And stick around for our final X-Men Power Rankings to see who reigns (crunch-wrap) supreme going into Season 2.

Join the Boyz as they cap off the ferocious finale of X-Men '97 Season 1. Did they manage to stick the Blackbird landing? Or was it as rocky as a flaming Asteroid M? Either way it's a miracle of a show that rose from the ashes of the past like a Pheen dream. And we can't wait for more.

Oh my stars and garters! We've seen the X-Men face off against their fair share of humans and sentinels; but what happens when they take on both at once? Big bad boy Bastion has weaponized humanity and there's only one mutant who can disarm these super-charged fiends -- unfortunately, he's tied up at the moment. Join the Boyz as they take an action-packed family trip with the Summers gang. Destination? The Danger Zone.

Well we're here to wipe your tears and provide answers to burning hot questions like -- who exactly is this Bastion guy who's even more sininster-er than Sinister? Why do prisons suck at holding villains in this show? Did we need MCU cameos? Will Roberto finally get out of last place in the power rankings? This and more. Here and now. ON X-BOYZ.

I like the crop top, sue me

Questions: What do you think about the way Storm got her powers back? Does the metaphor work? What do you think Mr. Sinister is a metaphor for or symbol of? In the context of the 90s, do you think he’s a reference to the anxieties around cloning and technological advancing? Or is he an even older reference to ideas of eugenics? For some reason, he’s a villain who I can never place in terms of metaphor or symbology.

Storm’s storyline might be thing that bothers me the most about this season - Storm always seems to get short-changed in these adaptations and it’s quite heart wrenching.

I can’t help but wonder if the season had better outlined Storm feeling tired even before her powers were stripped away that we might better understand the trauma and mental battles she later faces. What if it was more clear that the Professor’s absence had taken a toll on Storm mentally and physically - leading the team, keeping it together, and highlight that perhaps without her powers things might be easier because she was so so tired. I completely agree with Mary that Storm getting her powers back needed to amount to something - she feels so absent. What isn’t she in episode seven??? My goodness, she’s Storm, Mistress of the Elements!

Such a fun podcast about an amazing series. The X-Men brought me here, the irreverent tone keeps bringing me back. The sound drops never fail to make me laugh hysterically. Keep up the great work! Can’t wait for season two of X-Men 97!

And my go to Taco Bell order is a cravings box with a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, the Beefy 5 Layer Burrito, Cinnamon Twists, and a large Baja Blast!

To me, my Chalupas!

After X-Men 97’s episode “Remember It”, I needed a podcast to help me process my feels. I found three: one whiny, one insightful, and one that’s hilarious and obsessed with Taco Bell. This is the Taco Bell one <ring>.

Having only vague memories of the original animated series (all I remember is the awesome intro music and Gambit’s accent), and no experience with the comics, most of my X-Men knowledge came from the back of action figure boxes (I unaccountably had dozens), a cousin who was really into the comics, and the 2000s movies. Excited to listen to the back catalog and watch the entire old series for the first time.

As for Gambit, I hope that in S2 he gets to…Live Más!
