Yoga & Psychotherapy, the journey from your head to your heart with Nat Commons

Warrior One Yoga

Today Nova is joined by the lovely Nat Commons, one of our head Teacher Trainers and yoga teacher at our Brighton and Mordialloc studios.

Nat has a background in myotherapy, physical education, dance, and teaching and explains to us how she found her way to yoga. Nat completed her teacher training with Warrior One in 2017, fully immersing herself into the yogic lifestyle. Nat is passionate about sharing yoga with others and loves seeing the shifts that occur in their lives once they start practicing yoga. She is now also studying psychotherapy which allows her to fully explore the mind-body-spirit connection.

Our conversation centres around how we can move from the head to the heart. This is one of the longest journeys we will ever take - it requires faith and patience and is truly a lifelong practice. Nat reveals how yoga practice is not all love and light and how important it is to acknowledge the shadow aspect of ourselves so that we can come back into wholeness.

We also discuss how we come to be so disconnected from our hearts. Nat explains the concept of conditions of worth (our perceived view of how we need to show up to be accepted) and how this can lead to repression of our whole selves.

Nat explains how yoga helps us reconnect with ourselves, incorporating both the physical practice at the studio and how it can be an embodied practice in our wider lives.

Nat also talks about Kriya yoga, and its three parts (tapas, svadhyaya and ishvara pranidhana) and how these values can help guide our yoga practice.

Nat is a truly remarkable human and such an inspiration to all of us here at Warrior One. She encourages us to peel back the layers and come back to ourselves.
