Contribution Margin to Cover Life's Overhead
In the world of cost accounting, there's a concept known as contribution margin. Basically, it's how much you make on a product or service after you consider how much it cost to make that thing. Now, Jesse asks, what if we apply this concept to our life?
You Are Building WEALTH
It's not a dirty word, so let's say it together -- wealth! At YNAB, we often use the words "save money," and it's a more approachable concept, something that seems achievable in the short term. Wealth can seem like such a far-off concept sometimes. But at the end of the day, that's what we're all trying to do, is to build wealth that will allow us to do more of what we want to do in life.
Just Settle In
While canning tomatoes from a bumper crop, Jesse realized the process was going to take a looooooong time. His wife advised him, simply, to "just settle in." Anything that yields great results in the future takes both upfront effort and perseverance. Whether it's gardening, putting up vegetables for the winter, or budgeting, you have to settle in.

Love the Short Episodes
I just stumbled upon this podcast today, after deciding to take steps in finding financial freedom. I’m LOVING it and learning so much!
We started seriously using YNAB and listening to this podcast in January. Thanks to that, in March we were for the first time out of the paycheck to paycheck cycle when we both lost our jobs AND got sick with Covid-19 at the same time. Thanks to this amazing tool we had the peace of mind to be able to heal up without the stress of money on our minds. We are still waiting to receive unemployment, but not stressed at all. I’ve tried numerous budgeting systems over the years and YNAB is by far the best. If you take the time to learn it and listen to the podcast to get inspired, this system can change your life! I especially find the “debt stories” series to be inspiring. Thank you YNAB!
This podcast offers short episodes that discuss various topics to improve your financial and personal lives.
It’s not my favorite personal finance podcast, but this adds a slightly different perspective on some areas that I enjoy.
