You Probably Think This Story’s About You

This isn’t your typical true crime story. Brittani Ard steps back into the shadowy labyrinth of memories, scars, and fragile ties that bind us to our past. Where wounds still ache and the bonds of connection blur between salvation and entrapment. After revealing her own story in the first 8 chapters, she’s pulling at the threads of the past—threads so delicate they threaten to unravel everything. This time, it’s not just her story. It’s the stories of others whose lives intertwine with hers in ways no one could have predicted. A woman searches for a photograph of her abusive ex, but the picture holds more than just memories. A foster youth exchanges black trash bags for a voice that refuses to be silenced anymore, revealing a haunting past that demands to be heard. And a story of rekindled love, as strength and vulnerability collide to reveal what was always meant to be. You Probably Think This Story’s About You is raw, haunting, and achingly human—a tapestry of messy, beautiful lessons stitched together by the lives we touch and the stories we share. The secrets we carried no longer have power over us

Underwhelming

Plot twist: there kind of isn’t one. I kept waiting for the other show to drop and for a big reveal but it turns out the pod is about a lot of things other than what initially seemed like it would be more of a true crime story. It’s ok, but comes off a bit self indulgent.
Meh

Host interjects too much into the guest stories with unnecessary comments about her own life or frivolous details. She should let them tell their story without making it about her. She comes across as trying to be an expert or a professional mental health provider, but it falls flat.
Inflated sense of importance

S1 E1 started sooo good! Reminded me of the Sweet Bobby catfish podcast. Then after 2 episodes of realizing that the guy she met online was a liar, it went off into a side story of her childhood and her sister’s death with comments from dad. I was so confused and thought I missed something. Then it talked about what the family believes is her sister’s murder and how they hired a PI. Then it jumped back into the dating guy where she sort of talks to others he dated and lied to at the same time. She didn’t want to let her guests tell their story without her interjections. I finished S1 disappointed but saw S2 was other people stories. S2 E1 was more of Brit’s story! I was annoyed. Jumped to S2 E2 and it was someone else’s story but again Brit had to add her comments and relate it back to herself every couple minutes. I gave up. The host just wants to tell everyone about herself and that’s it. It just not good with no real story line.
Not for me

This story could have been told in two episodes. Standards for podcasts are very high now, and this podcaster has a lot to learn.
