It's time for the final Beach House of 2023, and we read Delicious in Dungeon! The whole thing! It's a great manga and we had a good time discussing it even if our job is pretty difficult because the main thing is just: look at it. I mean look at it bro.
We'll be back next year with a slightly reduced Beach House schedule but we'll update you ahead of time on what the next episode is going to be!

The strike is over! After what seems like a lifetime, the 2023 writers strike came to an end and with it the request podcasts not do promotional work. Which means we can get back to talking about movies! We’re really excited, but also it’s been a tough year, so we decided to make one short episode talking about where we’re at, where we’re headed, and if you’re seeing this in your feed, what that means for the show you’re listening to. Sorry to Beach House for being the kinda bad news winner this shake up.
Also, as a thank you to everyone for supporting us, the newest voip recorded days before the strike began is now up free for everyone at patreon.com/abnormalmapping! You don’t have to, but while you’re there maybe think about subscribing? It truly helps us out a lot.
Until the next real episode, Amurooooooo!

Good show

I enjoy this podcast quite a bit. There’s quite a dearth of anime podcasts - this is probably my favorite of the bunch. I especially like how the hosts aren’t high schoolers (both in age and mentality), and have experience with “art” outside the otaku sphere. It’s a neat perspective.

Because they are definitely NOT otaku - they’ve got strongly held opinions & values that differ from the anime fan consensus. Again, this is good, though sometimes that level of self-assurance can be pretty annoying (I mean, they’re just podcasters… in their 30s… even if they’re mostly right. Though I’m just a stupid commenter, so I’ve no room to talk). These theys call it like they see it. They’re also a bit “”scoldy””, so if you’re someone who whines about that sort of thing, you may not enjoy it.

A suppose a qualm (?) I have is that they make a lot of observations/claims about [the development of] anime [through] history, which I really like, but I’m pretty sure a lot of them are logical conclusions/“this would make sense” rather than strictly evidence-based (interviews etc). Not that they need to be. I’m happy they do it at all. Just take it with a grain of salt.

Hosts have a good rapport, generally know their stuff, no ads, all that. I wish there were more episodes! 2x a month please!
