    Kung Pow: Enter the Whiskey

Part Three of our Comfort Food Movies Miniseries! (NOW WITH GUESTS!)

How does a largely forgotten and unapologetically stupid send-up of Hong Kong martial arts movies hold up to our 2023 sensibilities? What memories are conjured by drinking this well-branded, cocktail focused Japanese whiskey from spirits giant Beam-Suntory? And is “Onion Wine” actually impossible to make, or is Jamie just too scared to try? Who wants a round of Arnold Palmers spiked with Toki? Pour yourself a double, for you are the Chosen One today!

Suntory ‘Toki’ Japanese Whiskey is widely available at most retailers for $45.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is a 2002 film from writer/director/producer/star Steve Oedekerk. As of this episode’s release, you can rent or purchase it wherever you get your VODs.

Jurassic Park & Moët (or, "LVMH was so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they never stopped to think if they should")

Part Two of our Comfort Food Movies Miniseries!

What is the origin story of Jamie’s life-long love affair with Jurassic Park? Does Scott have any affinity for the ubiquitous champagne featured prominently in the movie, or is this just spite backfiring? And where does Jamie get off blaming Steven Spielberg for him failing out of college? Fire up the movie, pop a bottle of the good stuff, and hold onto your butts.

Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne is widely available at most retailers and wine shippers for approximately $55 plus tax and shipping.
Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park (1993) is a stone cold classic and Jamie is both smart and handsome for having picked it. At present you can stream it on Peacock, rent or buy it wherever you get your VODs, or get yourself some sweet physical media (if you don’t own it already).

Chaotic Good Energy

This show is a delightful fount of the kind of intellectual bickering that is born from knowing each other so well and for so long. And sometimes they even learn from each other. As a wine novice, Jamie’s explanations really helped me expand my palate and explore wines I usually wouldn’t bother with. Also there’s stuff about movies, but Scott likes The Batman so… that’s a shame. But other than that glaring lapse of judgment on his part, Scott has a deep well of knowledge about film making and the industry overall that continues to impress. ALSO: GREEN LANTERN.

So it turns out you can edit these?

Not sure this will count, but I really want Jamie to watch Thor: Ragnarock, and preferably with someone other than me. So here’s a “new review” in which I will also remind everyone this is a great goddamn podcast and you should definitely listen to it, because these beautiful idiots are hilarious and knowledgeable (knowledgeable idiots…it’s a thing, tell your friends), and we all need more of them in our lives.

This pod gets me.

I am amazed at every episode how fantastic this concept has proven to be. I’ve known Jamie for a while and never thought he was this interesting but knew he had a fantastic palate and his knowledge and energies were unparalleled when it comes to wine. What this pod has really demonstrated is just how well rounded he really is and, it appears, that this S2H chap is pretty intrinsic too. It takes a lot of energy to put these out and I’m just enthralled at how much fun they’ve turned out to be.
My windshield time is fun again. Thanks gents.
