I Just Believe in Parties‪!‬ Be There in Five

    • Personal Journals

TW: First 12 minutes contains discussion of the events, imagery, and groups present at the insurrection at the Capitol on 1/6
This week, Kate couldn’t help but wonder if influencers who refuse to acknowledge issues important to their following are perhaps still hung up on that time Samantha Jones (RIP) said she doesn't believe in the Republican or Democratic party, she just believes in parties!!! This episode (outside of comparing influencers that are unwilling to engage in substantive discussions to decorative cocktail napkins) is a mostly serious stream of consciousness about the discussion surrounding influencers' responses to the attempted coup that took place at the US Capitol January 6th. Similar to previous episodes surrounding COVID and social injustice, Kate details how she approaches politically adjacent topics as both an influencer and observer, talks about what she (and other listeners) have said they think are non-negotiables, explores the nuance of how and why people choose not to engage, the implications of not doing so, and the importance of consistency in values-driven content going forward. There's probably an Emily in Paris or Turtle Freak Lane rant in there somewhere too? She can't help herself. Enjoy!
