Real Gardening in my Real Garden
Hi there. I have a large garden on the West Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. I thought it would be fun to share some of the random thoughts and things that happen in my garden in a quick 5 minute chit chat.

Today is the winter solstice. The sun couldn’t be any further away. But the good thing is the days will only get
longer from now on and summer will be here before we know it! It is also the traditional day for planting
onions.

Today is the eve of the winter solstice and it show. It is cold and the day seemed to disappear quite early in the afternoon. It was hard to get going and hard to keep going – so we went garden shopping, which resulted in a slightly dramatic happening.

Sometimes computer gardening keeps me out of the garden, but it stays in my head. Having said that I have been in there today and have made great progress. There are also some delicious things coming out of the garden for dinner tonight – yummo!

You gotta love a good rainbow and today we had an amazing one caught on camera. I also started the process of marking out the new garden room and then moved on down into the edible section for some deep maintenance.

I’m not a great one for following instructions but I’ve
decided to attempt to align myself to garden design principles for this new garden room – well as closely as I will allow myself without compromising my creativity. So this time I’m all about the site survey with surprising results.

It turns out I’m not a spring chicken, but have the
determination of one. So I will need to think smarter so I don’t need to work harder going forward.
